About this role
About the Role D2L is seeking a Senior People and Culture Generalist who enjoys partnering with leaders and employees to translate people practices into practical, human-centered solutions. In this hybrid role, you’ll balance hands-on support with strategic partnership across the business and contribute to core people programs, change initiatives, and the ongoing evolution of the employee experience in a global organization.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and leaders (Director level and below), providing timely, practical, and empathetic guidance aligned with policies, employment legislation, and D2L values.
- Build effective working relationships with leaders through regular check-ins, proactively identifying people-related risks and opportunities.
- Support performance management activities, including goal setting, calibration, and year-end review cycles.
- Partner with People & Culture Business Partners on merit, promotion, and talent review processes, including data validation and employee communications.
- Provide operational support for compensation programs, with a focus on accuracy, equity, and consistency.
- Support organizational changes such as restructures, leadership transitions, and role changes, including employee communications and impact assessments.
- Contribute to job architecture and job profile development in collaboration with leaders, recruiters, and People & Culture partners.
- Gather and synthesize feedback from sources such as listening sessions and surveys, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects that enhance employee experience, operational efficiency, or data quality.
- Manage ongoing employee relations and performance matters, including documentation and escalation of complex or high-risk situations when needed.
What We're Looking For
- Solid knowledge of employment standards and HR best practices, particularly in Canada and the United States; experience supporting multiple jurisdictions is an asset.
- Practical experience using HRIS platforms and reporting tools, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Comfort working with data and trends to inform recommendations and decisions.
- Experience navigating sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Acumen with Artificial Intelligence tools.
- An interest in improving how people programs and processes work in practice, not just in theory.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5–7+ years of progressive experience in a Human Resources or People and Culture role, ideally within a global, evolving, or scaling organization.
- This is a hybrid role with in-office expectation of 3 days per week from D2L's HQ in Kitchener, Ontario.
