Job title: Senior Patient Accounting Specialist

About the Role Senior Patient Accounting Specialist at Logan Health will lead and support our patient billing and collections operations, including billing, payment posting, claims research, and accounts receivable. You will guide, train, and assist team members, handle first-level questions and escalations, and ensure accurate, compliant processes in support of exceptional patient care.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Patient Accounting team members, patients, clients, providers, payers, and other departments.
  • Identify and report payment issues and discrepancies; assist in resolving them.
  • Train and support new and current team members, ensuring work meets department standards.
  • Assist leadership with special projects and maintain open communication.
  • Analyze account data to resolve claims and payments, escalating unresolved issues as needed.
  • Post payments and adjustments according to policies and procedures.
  • Document all communication professionally and accurately.
  • Review account information for accuracy in the billing system.
  • Interpret explanations of benefits (EOBs) to identify payment discrepancies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and support team goals with a focus on improvement.
  • Maintain regular attendance as scheduled.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in claims, billing, or collections; or minimum of two (2) years in a business office setting.
  • Associate's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, with the ability to learn new software.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and training skills.
  • Experience in healthcare, hospital, or medical office settings, knowledge of claim resolution, and payer regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand HIPAA guidelines.

Nice to Have

  • Previous hospital or medical office setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of claim resolution and payer regulations preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel and/or revenue cycle software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, self-starter with critical thinking, able to set priorities and work as part of a team or independently.
  • Possess ability to maintain confidentiality and understand HIPAA and other applicable federal laws.
