About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and results-driven Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our growing diagnostic laboratory team in Ibadan. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering accurate, reliable, and timely diagnostic services while providing technical leadership, supervising laboratory personnel, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of quality, patient safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement. We are looking for a dedicated professional who demonstrates strong technical competence, leadership ability, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in laboratory practice.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations and Technical Oversight:
- Perform, supervise, and coordinate routine and specialized laboratory investigations within authorized areas of professional competence.
- Review, validate, and authorize laboratory results, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and timely reporting.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, workflow, specimen management, and turnaround times.
- Ensure proper operation, calibration, maintenance, and performance monitoring of laboratory equipment.
- Monitor reagent availability, consumables, stock levels, and inventory management to prevent operational disruptions.
Quality Management and Regulatory Compliance:
- Implement and maintain laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, including internal quality control and external quality assessment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable MLSCN regulations, laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), biosafety requirements, and relevant quality standards.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and traceable laboratory records, reports, and quality documentation.
- Identify, investigate, document, and resolve laboratory nonconformities through corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Participate in internal audits, regulatory inspections, risk assessments, and continuous quality-improvement initiatives.
Leadership and Staff Development:
- Provide technical supervision, guidance, coaching, and mentorship to Medical Laboratory Technicians and other laboratory personnel.
- Support staff onboarding, training, competency assessments, and continuing professional development.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, ethical conduct, and adherence to laboratory policies and professional standards.
- Collaborate with laboratory management to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and patient satisfaction.
Patient Care and Professional Practice:

Maintain strict patient confidentiality and uphold professional ethics.

Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, processing, storage, and disposal.

Communicate critical laboratory results promptly in accordance with established procedures.

Collaborate effectively with referring clinicians, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.

Qualification and Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), current registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and a valid annual practising licence.

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant post-NYSC professional experience in a recognised medical diagnostic or clinical laboratory.

Demonstrable experience in laboratory supervision, technical leadership, or team coordination.

Strong practical competence in clinical laboratory investigations, quality control, result validation, and laboratory safety.

Good understanding of laboratory quality management systems, SOP implementation, equipment management, and regulatory compliance.

Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS), Microsoft Office, and relevant computer applications.

Excellent communication, analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgement, and manage competing operational priorities.

Location Preference: Applicants currently residing in Ibadan, Oyo State, will be given preference. However, qualified candidates residing outside Ibadan are also encouraged to apply.

Attractive salary package commensurate with qualifications, experience, and demonstrated competence.
- Annual MLSCN Licence Sponsorship: DLAB will cover the employee's annual MLSCN practising licence renewal fee throughout eligible employment.
