MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Develop, review, and approve mechanical engineering designs for oil & gas, petrochemical, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare mechanical design calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets, layouts, and technical documentation in accordance with project requirements.
  • Design and engineer mechanical systems, equipment, piping interfaces, and associated facilities based on approved project specifications and applicable codes and standards.
  • Review mechanical design inputs, project specifications, client requirements, process data, and engineering deliverables to establish design criteria.
  • Develop and review equipment layouts, general arrangements, mechanical drawings, piping arrangements, and installation details.
  • Perform mechanical calculations including equipment sizing, pressure and temperature requirements, loads, stresses, hydraulic considerations, and other design parameters as applicable.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications and datasheets for static equipment, rotating equipment, packages, tanks, vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and other mechanical systems.
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, data sheets, and technical submissions to verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical design activities with Process, Piping, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Materials, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve interdisciplinary design clashes, interface issues, and constructability constraints.
  • Conduct design reviews, technical evaluations, value engineering studies, and constructability assessments.
  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client specifications, including ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, and relevant project standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Lead or participate in technical meetings with clients, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, material requisitions, purchase requisitions, and other mechanical deliverables for technical accuracy.
  • Provide engineering support during procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Respond to technical queries, Requests for Information (RFIs), site queries, and requests for design clarification.
  • Investigate design-related problems and develop technically sound and cost-effective solutions.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, design reviews, SIL-related activities where applicable, risk assessments, and other project technical reviews.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are produced in accordance with approved project schedules, quality requirements, document control procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Monitor design progress and coordinate deliverables to ensure engineering milestones are achieved.
  • Review as-built documentation and incorporate approved field changes into final engineering deliverables.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, engineering studies, design basis documents, calculations, and project specifications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, safety, constructability, and lifecycle cost.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with company HSE policies and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Engineer or Engineering Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 8–12 years of relevant mechanical engineering/design experience, preferably within oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, or major industrial projects.
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical engineering and design packages for complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design, equipment specification, layouts, mechanical systems, and engineering calculations.
  • Experience with static and rotating equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, tanks, and packaged equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design codes and standards, including ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, and applicable client/company standards.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation, equipment datasheets, drawings, calculations, and technical bids.
  • Ability to interpret and produce mechanical drawings, equipment layouts, general arrangements, and design documentation.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating mechanical interfaces with piping, process, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of constructability, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and maintenance requirements.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Plant 3D, Navisworks, or equivalent tools, depending on project requirements.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to review and approve technical deliverables and provide mentorship to less-experienced engineers.
  • Professional engineering registration or membership with a recognized engineering institution is an advantage.
