About the Team

At Nutanix, the Test Engineering team is a close-knit group of six dedicated Test Engineers stationed on-site at our San Jose headquarters. Our team culture is centered around collaboration and a commitment to continuous learning, where we embrace dynamic technologies and strive for constant improvement. Each team member is encouraged to share insights and expertise, fostering an environment where innovation can flourish.

You will report to the Sr. Manager of Test Engineering, who is committed to guiding the team through projects and professional development. This role requires you to work on-site at our San Jose headquarters, which helps facilitate direct communication and effective teamwork. While the position is primarily based in the office, we expect you to be present in the San Jose office most of the time. You will work hands-on with physical hardware in our on-site lab and occasionally at our manufacturing partner in San Jose. In this role, you will collaborate with internal HW Platform, Component, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to deliver quality-focused test solutions for server products built at external manufacturing partner sites and shipped worldwide. Travel requirements are minimal, with approximately 10–15% travel needed to support Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and factory activities.

Your Role

  1. Test Strategy & Planning
  • Review and evaluate ODM and partner test plans and strategies, ensuring system integration expectations are met and coverage of major components is achieved.

  • Update and provide inputs to test plans that include test-flow details, capacity analysis, equipment requirements, and coverage analysis.

  • Apply design-for-test (DFT) concepts and contribute to manufacturing test standards and procedures for server platforms. 2. Test Automation & Infrastructure

  • Develop, write, modify, and debug automated test solutions to test and validate x86 or AMD server platforms for functional test, including code enhancements to improve throughput.

  • Build and maintain scalable automated test infrastructure capable of collecting product genealogy, test records, and test logs, using standard network architecture and database solutions.

  • Use Linux and Windows development environments, source-control workflows, and code reviews to deliver reliable test software for manufacturing hardware.

  • Use AI tools and technologies, such as Cursor, Claude, Gemini, and Glean, where appropriate to accelerate test-code development, streamline debugging, and improve engineering efficiency. 3. Partner, Vendor & Supply Chain Collaboration

  • Support productivity and efficiency improvements at Contract Manufacturer and partner sites, and work with vendors to procure, build, and expand testing solutions and infrastructure.

  • Develop test solutions that enable Contract Manufacturers to quickly and accurately analyze failures, troubleshoot issues, and support root-cause analysis.

Able to work with vendors to procure and build and/or expand current testing solutions/infrastructure.

  1. Quality Assurance & Root Cause Analysis
  • Perform root-cause, corrective, and preventive analysis for manufacturing test issues.

  • Support product quality through DFT, fishbone diagrams, FMEA analysis, and monitoring of manufacturing, field, and RMA quality data. 5. Operational Excellence & Analytics

  • Develop data-collection strategies, tools, or dashboards for monitoring test capacity and yields.

  • Use automation and analytics tools to generate reports, analyze manufacturing data, and identify actionable opportunities for yield improvement.

  • Continuously identify opportunities for test improvements, test-time reductions, on-time delivery, and cost-effective solutions. 6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in weekly technical meetings such as code sprints and reviews, quality-management meetings, and lifecycle-management meetings.

Collaborate with HW, SW, Quality, Supply Chain, Contract Manufacturer, and RMA teams to support product introduction, test coverage, and lifecycle activities.

What You Will Bring

  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent/related field.
  • Prior relevant experience in automation for testing x86 server and storage products, or other networking or hardware-system products.
  • 5+ years of direct experience developing software solutions and automation for manufacturing-related production test processes.
  • Knowledge of automation software and scripting languages or environments such as Python, C/C++, C#, Perl, TCL, .NET, NI TestStand, and JSON.
  • Experience working in Linux and Windows operating-system environments, with a working knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Experience with Agile development, JIRA, Confluence, Git, and GitHub.
  • Exposure to MySQL, MongoDB, or PostgreSQL; PXE boot ISO creation; REST/SOAP APIs; UI design; and analytics platforms is helpful.
  • Hypervisor, virtualization, and containerized-solution knowledge with Docker or Kubernetes is a plus. Additional Job Requirements
  • Apply standard software lifecycle practices, including plan, code, build, test, release, deploy, and monitor, for new and existing products.
  • Use JIRA projects and storyboards for sprint planning and releases, together with source-control tools such as Git and GitHub and Agile methodologies.
  • Maintain a broad test-related background in storage and server products or systems.
  • Create software and hardware test solutions that are robust, scalable, consistent, and reliable for large-scale production.
  • Ability to distinguish between hardware and software product issues is desirable.
  • Coordinate and apply ECOs for firmware, software, and hardware changes.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Support first-level triage for factory test issues and assist with field issues related to Nutanix platforms.
