Our Business Development & Marketing team plays a critical role in enhancing the Firm’s reputation, expanding its client base and driving revenue growth. This team develops and implements strategic marketing plans to promote the Firm’s legal services, leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to reach target audiences. They conduct market research to identify industry trends and client needs, positioning the Firm competitively within the legal marketplace. The team also manages client relationships, orchestrates business development initiatives, and seeks opportunities for partnerships and networking. Through compelling content creation, event planning and public relations efforts, they ensure that the Firm maintains a strong market presence and continues to attract and retain clients.
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager, Business Development for a 12-month FTC to cover a parental leave in the team and support the partners, practice leaders, and cross-functional teams to ensure BD activities are aligned with firm and practice priorities, delivered efficiently, and continuously improved.
The Senior Manager, Business Development is an operational leader and business development subject matter expert responsible for translating strategic business development priorities into effective execution within the practice group. The role ensures the high-quality delivery of BD initiatives, provides expert advisory support to partners and leadership, and leads teams and projects to drive client engagement, growth, and market positioning.
The Senior Manager contributes to the evolution of BD best practices and processes, supports the adoption of strategic initiatives, and plays a critical role in ensuring consistent, high-impact execution across the practice group.
The roles and responsibilities of this job include:
- Develop and execute client and business development strategies aligned with firm, practice, industry and office priorities across APAC.
- Manage complex client proposals, pitches and presentations, ensuring tailored, high-quality and commercially compelling submissions.
- Identify and develop market and client opportunities across multiple practices, including through market intelligence, competitor analysis and horizon scanning.
- Advise partners and leadership on client planning, relationship management, client segmentation and strategic commercial priorities.
- Build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, aligning diverse perspectives and facilitating cross-practice collaboration to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Lead practice and partner positioning initiatives, including thought leadership, rankings, content, press and deal announcements, working closely with marketing and communications teams.
- Oversee major practice, industry and office events in collaboration with the Australia-based Events Specialist.
- Manage and mentor BD team members and project groups across APAC, including lateral and junior partner integration and coaching, while ensuring BD activity is efficient, high-quality and aligned with strategic objectives.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with relevant professional qualifications preferred.
- Significant business development experience within professional services, partnering with senior leadership to translate strategy into execution.
- Strong expertise in pitches, client planning and market positioning, with the ability to provide practical strategic advice.
- Proven project-management experience, including leading cross-functional teams and delivering high-quality outcomes on time.
- Commercially minded and analytical, with strong problem-solving judgment and a track record of improving BD processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with partners, BD teams and wider business services colleagues.
