About the Role Under the general direction of the Service Manager, the Senior Mechanic- Mechanical Maintenance leads a zone team of Maintenance Mechanics responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, kitchen equipment, and related mechanical, electrical, and control systems. The role includes supervising the team, coordinating emergencies, and providing technical guidance to customers, contractors, and project managers. This position contributes to a safe, reliable building environment for students, faculty, and staff. What You'll Do
- Lead the zone team in diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, commercial refrigeration, plumbing, kitchen equipment, and other mechanical/electrical systems; inspect components and calibrate controls to optimize efficiency; oversee controlled shut-downs and startup verification.
- Oversee preventive maintenance activities including process water systems, seasonal chiller condenser tube cleaning, cooling tower cleaning and start-up treatment; hydronic heating loop testing and treatment; perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs as needed (e.g., re-lamping, ballasts, switches, receptacles).
- Collaborate with Preventive Maintenance and zone team Senior Mechanics to develop/update task lists per manufacturer manuals and industry best practices; maintain the TMA electronic work order and scheduling system; electronically enter new equipment into TMA (barcoding, data plates, photos, consumables and replacement parts); identify equipment no longer in service for deactivation.
- Conduct daily Building Automation System checks and adjustments; manage daily communications and TMA work orders; prioritize and lead the service activities of a team of three Maintenance Mechanics; assist with parts procurement and research; oversee tool maintenance and keep mechanical areas clean.
- Adhere to all safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out, MSDS warnings, PPE, and OSHA requirements; advise supervisor of unsafe conditions or hazards.
- Assist Service Managers, colleagues, and contractors with consultation and system information.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays in a scheduled rotation. What We're Looking For
- Experience leading a maintenance team in a facilities/ campus environment with strong diagnostic and repair skills across HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Advanced knowledge of building automation controls (DDC and pneumatic) and ability to diagnose and adjust control systems.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and electronic work order systems (e.g., TMA) including asset data management and deactivation of obsolete equipment.
- Effective communication skills with customers, contractors, and project managers; commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work weekends/holidays as required.
- Technical training or certifications in building maintenance or related fields; relevant certifications preferred.
