Contributes to the overall success of the Legal Department in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with governing laws in addition to internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage internal Legal and broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Champions a risk awareness culture and ensure that legal and reputational risks are identified and managed within Tangerine Bank’s risk framework.
• Ensure timely action is taken to effectively manage and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, including prompt escalation of issues as per established processes to ensure the Bank’s objectives are met.
• Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities, advice and decisions and provide legal advice with an awareness of the need to minimize reputational, legal and regulatory risk.
• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
• Represents Tangerine Bank at select meetings or on committees with government, public and private organizations; researches and prepares submissions to government bodies on legislation and other issues affecting the organization.
