Senior IXL Application Design Engineer

About the Role Senior IXL Application Design Engineer role at Alstom in Bucharest. You’ll apply technical and analytical expertise to interlocking design for Central and East Europe projects, contributing to software module development and subsystem testing while supporting hardware/software integration. This full-time role offers opportunities to collaborate with cross-site teams and shape innovative rail solutions. What You'll Do

• Contribute to the elaboration of interlocking (IXL) sub-system specifications and architecture, in collaboration with the interlocking architect.
• Follow the design tool chain and internal processes and standards.
• Leverage 3-5 years of experience in relevant design positions using ladder/relay logic.
• Prepare and perform interlocking sub-system module tests and verifications (Designer tests).
• Support hardware/software integration activities with the hardware designer.
• Contribute to workload estimations for your deliverables.
• Drive continuous improvement through return of experience and process enhancement.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and teams across sites. What We're Looking For
• University degree in Engineering (Transportation Systems, Electronics, Telecommunications, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent).
• At least 3-5 years of experience in relevant design positions using ladder/relay logic.
• Knowledge of ladder-logic and/or relay-logic programming.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking abilities.
• Capability to translate operational needs into clear technical constraints.
• Ability to explain and discuss technical solutions with internal or external stakeholders when required.
• Ability to understand, implement, and adapt logic-based control solutions.
• Capacity to generalize existing implementations and evaluate requirement coverage.
• Proficiency in English; Italian or French would be an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of railway signalling principles.
• Basic knowledge of ITC hardware architectures (client/server, workstation/blade, IP networking, routing, operating systems).
• Teamwork and communication skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
• Understanding and experience in software coding. Nice to Have
• Italian or French language skills would be an advantage.
