Job title: Senior IS Technical Project Manager - Project Management Office
About the Role The Technical Senior Project Manager III leads highly complex, matrixed IT/IS projects aligned with Dana-Farber's strategic plan and process improvement priorities, often spanning multiple divisions. This role plans and manages several projects concurrently, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget, and engages diverse stakeholders including senior leadership to drive project success and cross-departmental collaboration. With proven technical expertise, you will partner with engineering and development teams to mitigate risks, lead technology decisions, and drive system architecture discussions, IT policy development, code reviews, and technical feasibility assessments. This position reports to the Manager of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Information Services PMO and is located in Boston with an estimated duration of 24-36 months.
What You'll Do
- Oversee highly complex projects with budgets exceeding $1M, involving multiple departments and external partners.
- Lead strategic decision-making by translating initiatives into detailed project plans that align with institutional priorities and enable measurable success.
- Translate business processes into technical solutions; guide analysts in requirements gathering and analysis.
- Engage with executive leadership and diverse stakeholders to drive project success and foster cross-organizational collaboration.
- Manage planning, execution, and evaluation of large-scale projects to ensure timely delivery within scope and budget while proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
- Represent the PMO in applying proven methodologies and tools; coach, mentor, and train staff in project management best practices across the IS organization.
- Support governance, auditing, and knowledge management; drive deployment and continuous improvement of standard project management tools, templates, and applications throughout DFCI IS.
- Collaborate with IT technical staff, business analysts, institute leaders, and external vendors throughout each project; establish and maintain respectful relationships with sponsors and stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale IT/IS projects, ideally in healthcare or research settings.
- Strong PMO background with methodologies, templates, governance, and the ability to coach and mentor others.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including with senior leadership.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, conduct risk analysis and mitigation, coordinate vendors, and manage budgets and resources.
- Technical aptitude to engage with engineering and development teams on architecture discussions, IT policy development, code reviews, and feasibility assessments.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: USD 130,930 - 140,230 per year.
