Job title: Senior Fraud Investigator
About the Role The Senior Fraud Investigator at Volkswagen Financial Services (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group) will manage fraud investigations, recovery efforts, and organizational awareness to mitigate risk and loss exposure. You will identify fraud trends, collaborate with Originations to prevent fraudulent accounts, work with law enforcement and outside counsel, and report fraud activities to leadership. You will also provide fraud training, represent VCI at industry events, and manage partner/vendor relationships related to fraud mitigation.
What You'll Do
- Fraud Investigations (30%): monitor fraud notifications from internal/external sources; conduct timely investigations; oversee investigative, monitoring, and recovery efforts; lead large fraud ring investigations (multi-dealer, multi-unit) and multi-state cases; manage recoveries; conduct dealer buy-back reviews; identify and investigate suspected dealer fraud; interview dealer management; produce comprehensive reports; handle depositions, mediations, arbitrations, etc.; manage investigations on high-balance accounts; support VCCI (Canada) with fraud investigations.
- Fraud Investigations External Relationships (20%): handle legal matters; liaise with counsel on settlements; build and maintain relationships with law enforcement; represent the organization in court appearances; file police reports when needed; advise on pursuing legal recovery efforts and assist counsel in case resolution.
- Fraud Analysis & Reporting (25%): maintain and audit fraud database; develop fraud detection tools and integrate with processes/VCI systems; review accounts handled by investigators for accuracy and effectiveness; monitor fraud notifications and ensure timely investigations.
- Fraud Prevention (25%): identify and implement changes to Credit Decision processes to reduce fraud; train Credit Decision teams to identify red flags; promote best practices for fraud detection within dealerships.
What We're Looking For
- 5-7 years of experience in fraud detection/deterrence or related field.
- Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree desired.
- Skills: Analytical and conceptual thinking; strong communication (interpersonal, presentation, written); ability to diffuse escalated conversations; proficiency with Default Manager, DeFi, Outlook, Excel; PowerPoint a plus; integration of processes or systems; influencing/negotiation; problem solving; knowledge of credit underwriting; knowledge of legal system; compliance.
- Certifications: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) preferred.
- Specialized abilities: data mining/analysis; ability to partner with multiple lines of business; self-motivated and goal-oriented; strong leadership, collaboration, negotiation, and diplomacy; excellent listening, written and oral communication.

- Salary ranges vary by state: California $73,200–$109,800; Colorado $66,500–$86,700; Washington $73,200–$109,800; New York City, NY $79,800–$119,800; Westchester County, NY $79,800–$119,800.
