Position Summary

Jabil's Energy & Infrastructure (E&I) division is seeking a Senior Firmware/Controls Engineer to strengthen our Power Electronics Engineering team in Taiwan. This function will focus on embedded control and system software to establish reusable firmware and controls capabilities for future power conversion platforms across energy storage and infrastructure, data center and industrial applications.

The candidate should combine hands-on embedded FW development with practical knowledge of power electronics, real-time control, HW/FW bring-up and verification, and system integration. He/she will work closely with power electronics, systems, validation, mechanical, thermal engineering and manufacturing teams (both local and global).

Key Responsibilities

  • Embedded Firmware Development

  • Design, implement, debug, document, and maintain production-quality embedded firmware in C/C++.

  • Define modular FW architecture, develop low-level drivers and API, diagnostics and event logging

  • Develop state machines for startup, pre-charge, enable, bidirectional operation, shutdown, fault recovery, and black-start sequences.

  • Apply structured configuration management, code reviews, static analysis, unit testing, and release discipline.

  • Digital Controls & Power Conversion

  • Implement control algorithms, parameter management and optimize voltage, current, and power-control loops for power conversion platforms

  • Support control-loop stability analysis, sampling and PWM strategy, filtering, data processing and calibration

  • Collaborate with power electronics engineers on control requirements, plant models, switching behavior, efficiency, and transient response.

  • Protection, Fault Handling & Risk Mitigation

  • Implement software protections (under/over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, sensor faults, communication loss, emergency stop, …).

  • Develop fault prioritization, safe-state behavior, recovery logic, service diagnostics, and traceability of critical events.

  • Contribute to system hazard reviews, DFMEA, fault-injection testing, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Communications & Integration

  • Develop machine communication interfaces (CAN/CAN-FD, RS485, Modbus, Ethernet, TCP/IP).

  • Integrate energy-management, rack or data-center control, HMI, and manufacturing test systems.

  • Define telemetry, commands, alarms, fault handling and interface control.

  • Verification & Productization

  • Create FW requirements, interface specifications, verification procedures, test reports, and release notes.

  • Support board bring-up, commissioning, HIL or simulation-based verification, and system-level validation.

  • Support prototype integration, compliance testing, manufacturing transfer, and field issue analysis.

  • Work effectively across global and multi-site teams, with strong ownership from concept through product release.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Typically 5+ years of relevant embedded firmware or real-time controls experience in product development.

  • Strong embedded C/C++ skills, including development experience with MCU- and DSP-based platforms.

  • Practical understanding of digital controls, PWM, ADC sampling, interrupts, signal conditioning & calibration, and real-time constraints.

  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers, power analyzers, and lab equipment

  • Professional English communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a global engineering environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Power Electronics, Control Systems, Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Firmware experience with high-power DC/DC converters, inverters, UPS, ESS, motor drives, or industrial power systems.

  • Experience with real-time control DSP/MCU platforms

  • Experience with simulation tools, such as: MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS/PSIM, hardware-in-the-loop, plant modeling

  • Familiarity with requirements management, coding standards, cybersecurity fundamentals, and software quality processes.

  • Experience supporting design transfer, production test, field service, customer integration, or technical proposals.
