Senior Fire Protection Engineer

About the Role The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will provide independent, timely, and professional fire protection engineering design support for Navy and other clients within the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic program at Norfolk Naval Station. This role covers planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities, including military construction, demolition, and space utilization projects. What You'll Do

• Provide independent, timely, and professional fire protection engineering support, services, and consultation for planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders and other engineering/architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with project-specific requirements.
• Address life safety, type of construction, height and area requirements, separation distances, fire-rated construction, spray-applied fireproofing, firestopping, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, clean agent fire suppression systems, base-wide fire alarm reporting systems, water distribution systems, hydraulic analysis, fire modeling, and performance-based designs of government facilities such as multi-story office buildings, steam plants, hospitals, housing, manufacturing, training centers, and similar structures.
• Coordinate minor works projects, specific projects, MILCON, demolition, maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development under NAVFAC guidelines. What We're Looking For
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering.
• Substantial professional knowledge and practical application of fire protection engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques to plan, design, construct, and maintain a wide range of shore-based engineering projects.
• Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy, as well as industry codes and standards (UFC, NFPA, IBC, IMC, IRC), FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Handbook, and other applicable standards.
• Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign laws affecting fire protection design in the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic area; ability to present proposed designs and study results orally.
• Proficiency with Autodesk software, Microsoft Office, fire protection design/analysis software, and other DoD systems.
• Ability to produce written analyses, consolidate findings, and evaluate recommendations.
• Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management; ability to coordinate work and lead teams.
• Knowledge of Safety Policy and Guidance, including PPE compliance. Nice to Have
• ABET-accredited degree in fire protection engineering or mechanical engineering with PE in Fire Protection Engineering (if degree is mechanical).
• Additional experience with fire modeling, hydraulic analysis, and performance-based design. Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $50-$70 per hour.
