The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery located in Carson, CA has an opening for a Senior Engineering Project Management. This mid-career position will be responsible for managing multiple capital and expense Mid-Cap projects (roughly $1 million to $25 million TIC per project) simultaneously within an approved budget and execution schedule. The Project Manager will be responsible for the project from conceptual engineering through project completion. The position will report to the Refining Engineering Manager (Mid-Cap) and have responsibility for managing all aspects of assigned projects to define overall project scope, develop a cost estimate and schedule, develop construction work packages, support project construction and close out the projects. The available onsite schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, after hours calls occur occasionally during the year and support of TAR once a year.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintains overall project management oversight for the assigned project(s) with responsibility over all required deliverables. Ensures deliverables meet MPC's project requirements.

• Leads project efforts through each phase to ensure that the established objectives are met related to performance, cost, schedule, safety and quality. These objectives are approved by the Project Manager in guiding documents such as the Project Charter, Decision Support Package(s) and Project Execution Plan.

• Identifies risk that can impact the success of the project and develops mitigation plans that will lesson or eliminate risk to ensure milestones and objectives are achieved.

• Manages project resources throughout all project phases which can include members from all disciplines. Assigns project activities and duties to team members in accordance with their strengths and experience levels.

• Evaluates and approves selection of contractors for all phases of the project.

• Ensures appropriate level of input and feedback is incorporated into the design, construction and future operation of the assigned project and associated assets.

• Facilitates the communication plan for the project. Reports project status, progress issues, and project deviations to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders. Manages stakeholder expectations to maintain productive relationships.

• Coordinates project related efforts with outside parties to develop strategies needed to support the project or company objectives. Acts as a single point of contact for others to engage in project related activities.

• Education, Experience and Skills

• Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

• Must have seven (7) years or more of combined project management/project engineering in a refining, petrochemical or other related oil and gas industry.

• Must have strong planning and coordinating skills.

• Must be self-directed and motivated individual who has good understanding of the project management processes.

• Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

• Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

• Must be able to work one of the available onsite schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, after hours calls occur occasionally during the year and support of TAR once a year.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in refinery or petrochemical equipment and processes is preferred.

• Relocation may be available.

• This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
