GitHub est à la recherche d’un(e) directeur(trice) principal(e) de l’ingénierie pour diriger et développer une équipe d’ingénierie distribuée répartie entre l’Europe, les États-Unis et le Canada au sein du groupe Code Scanning.

Notre équipe développe le moteur de détection CodeQL, la technologie d’analyse sémantique de code qui alimente GitHub Code Scanning, un produit utilisé quotidiennement par des centaines de milliers de développeurs dans le cadre de GitHub Advanced Security.

S’appuyant sur des recherches de pointe en analyse statique de code, CodeQL analyse le code en profondeur afin de détecter rapidement les vulnérabilités de sécurité et les erreurs de programmation dans dix langages pris en charge, notamment C/C++, C#, Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby et Swift.

L’équipe est responsable de la façon dont CodeQL interprète le code dans chacun de ces langages. Elle conçoit et maintient les extracteurs qui génèrent les bases de données CodeQL ainsi que les bibliothèques qui modélisent la structure et la sémantique de chaque langage. Elle veille également au maintien d’une couverture fonctionnelle cohérente et à l’intégration régulière des nouvelles versions de langages afin de garantir la disponibilité et la pertinence de CodeQL.

GitHub is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and grow a distributed engineering team (across Europe, US and Canada) in the GitHub code scanning group. We are passionate about ensuring the security and quality of the world’s software - from open source to the enterprise. We believe that the best way to secure and improve the quality of software is to detect actionable issues early in the development process and actively facilitate their remediation as part of the developer workflow.

Our team develops the CodeQL detection engine — GitHub's semantic code analysis technology that powers the GitHub Code Scanning product, used by hundreds of thousands of developers daily as part of GitHub's Advanced Security offering. Leveraging world-class static analysis research, CodeQL deeply analyses code to detect security vulnerabilities and correctness errors early across 10 supported languages, including C/C++, C#, Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, and Swift. The team is responsible for how CodeQL understands code across these languages: we build and maintain the extractors that produce CodeQL databases and the libraries that model each language's structure and semantics. We maintain consistent feature coverage and support frequent language-version updates to keep CodeQL broadly available.

You’ll create the conditions for teams to succeed by establishing effective development and quality practices, supporting thoughtful design and dependency management, and championing proactive approaches to reliability, testing, and operational health. As a senior people leader, you’ll coach and develop engineers and managers, model strong collaboration, and foster a culture of learning, ownership, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

• Define and drive a technical roadmap aligned with product goals, ensuring engineering efforts are prioritized strategically and encouraging the adoption of new technologies and methodologies where relevant.
• Facilitate communication between teams, identify dependencies and resolve coordination issues to ensure a harmonious integration between products, applications and services.
• Foster growth and development of employees, manage performance and maintain the team’s technical expertise by staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.
• Guide teams in designing scalable, secure and observable systems that meet business and technical requirements.
• Promote a culture of experimentation and data-driven development to enable rapid iteration and data-informed decision making.
• Advance engineering excellence through automation, tooling and standardization of deployment, testing and operations practices.
• Ensure leadership of incident management and reliability practices, meeting service level objectives (SLOs) and ensuring post-incident analyses drive durable, systemic improvements.

Qualifications

• Required qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience in software development, computer science or a related technical discipline, with demonstrated experience in development, maintenance and production of software using languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python.

• OR

• College diploma (DEC) in computer science, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, computer engineering or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in software development, computer science or a related technical discipline.

• OR

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, computer engineering or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience in software development, computer science or a related technical discipline.

• OR

• Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, computer engineering or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant experience in software development, computer science or a related technical discipline.

• OR

• PhD in one of the above fields.

• OR

• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

• At least 1 year of experience in personnel or technical team management.
