Job title: Senior Engineer
About the Role As a Senior Engineer at Mon Ami, you’ll design, build, test, and maintain the core software our public-agency customers rely on every day. You’ll own a defined area of the codebase and collaborate with product managers and 1–3 junior engineers to ship impactful projects. Our stack includes Ruby on Rails, Bootstrap, Stimulus, and PostgreSQL, and you’ll be coding, reviewing, modeling data, and mentoring teammates.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of a defined area of the codebase, shipping production-grade Rails features end to end. Work with Rails, Bootstrap, Stimulus, and PostgreSQL (or close analogs like Django).
- Develop people: mentor and grow 1–3 junior engineers, partnering with product managers to deliver projects and develop talent.
- Operate with startup agility in a small, scrappy team; figure things out, marshal resources, and hit goals.
- Ensure engineering quality through refactoring, thoughtful data design, and disciplined testing (1.4:1 test-to-code ratio).
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools as a force multiplier and know when to use which model.
What We're Looking For
- 3–5+ years of experience as a mid-level engineer at a fast-growing tech company.
- Rails + PostgreSQL fluency: strong experience with Ruby on Rails, Stimulus, JavaScript, Bootstrap, CSS3, Hotwire/Turbo, RSpec, ViewComponent, SQL/Postgres, Git, and SQL reporting tools.
- Strong engineering practices: track record of refactoring, data design, and disciplined testing.
- Creative problem-solver: ability to evaluate and integrate third-party software and APIs to move fast without cutting corners.
- AI development tool fluency: hands-on experience with Claude Code, Codex, or similar, and understanding of when to rely on each model.
- Agile-friendly: comfortable with Agile methodologies.
- Bonus: Terraform, AWS, and/or Google Cloud; building HIPAA-regulated products with PHI; multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
