About the Role
Senior Engineer I designs, reviews, and prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for capital improvement projects, including roadway infrastructure and water resources utilities. The role ensures compliance with regulations, coordinates with consulting engineers and contractors, and monitors construction to align with current and future City projects. What You'll Do

Design, write, review plans and specifications; prepare cost estimates for capital improvement projects including roadways and water resources utilities.

Review and ensure plans, specifications, and cost estimates from consulting engineers, architects, and private contractors conform to specifications, regulations, and are economically favorable and compatible with present and future City projects.

Monitor construction progress to verify conformance with plans and regulations; resolve issues by inspection, researching records, and communicating with involved parties.

Review plats, proposed utility construction, private construction or demolition projects, and permit work for adherence to regulations and construction standards.

In Public Works, contribute to traffic signal design, timing and system designs, and apply knowledge of computerized traffic signal systems; assist with geometric highway design and traffic planning as needed.

In Water, analyze and recommend solutions for water distribution, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and related concerns through studies and investigations. What We're Looking For

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience in designing and/or constructing capital improvement projects (Water Engineering track) or in traffic signal design, timing and systems design, computerized signal systems, geometric design and/or traffic planning and development (Civil Engineering track).

A Master’s Degree in Engineering or Public Administration may substitute for one year of experience.

Up to 1 year of experience may be granted for employment with the City of Dayton as a Municipal Inspector.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in Ohio or ability to obtain via reciprocity at time of appointment.

Valid driver’s license at appointment and thereafter as a condition of employment.

Background check, employment authorization and identity verification required; medical examination including drug screening and nicotine testing; tobacco/nicotine-free condition for new hires.

Degree must be from an accredited institution (as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education/HLC or equivalent). Nice to Have

Knowledge in the operation of computerized traffic signal systems.
