About this role
About the Role Senior Electrical Engineer (Substations) at DEPCOM Power to support engineering design and development of substation layouts for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. What You'll Do
- Develop physical layout drawings (plan, elevation, section, detail) for high-voltage substations and design criteria for structures, foundations, bus work, conductor sizing, and trenching.
- Perform calculations including bus/cable ampacity, ground grid sizing, lightning protection layout, conductor tensioning/sag, clearance studies, harmonic resonance, insulation coordination, transient over voltage, and EMT studies.
- Assist in protection and control system design: protection schemes, one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, relay logic, and protection relays (SEL, GE, ABB).
- Develop substation control systems including breaker control, status indication, alarms, interlocking.
- Produce drawing packages from 30% conceptual to IFC and coordinate with civil, protection & controls, and SCADA teams.
- Support grounding analyses (CDEGS, WinIGS) and conduct lightning protection studies for substations.
- Collaborate on load flow, short circuit, and insulation coordination studies.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and interconnection requirements; maintain standard templates and libraries.
- Collaborate with field teams for project implementation and field support. What We're Looking For
- Experience in substation physical design and engineering for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
- Proficiency in developing layout drawings, bus and conductor sizing, grounding calculations, and lightning protection.
- Knowledge of protection and control system design, relay coordination, and protection relays (SEL, GE, ABB).
- Experience producing drawing packages from concept to IFC and coordinating with civil, protection & controls, and SCADA teams.
- Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and interconnection requirements.
- Experience with grounding (CDEGS, WinIGS) and load flow, short circuit, and insulation coordination studies. Compensation & Benefits
