Senior Editor, SuperSTEM

About the Role The Senior Editor of SuperSTEM will be an integral part of Scholastic's editorial team, supporting the Editorial Director on all matters related to SuperSTEM and stepping in on high-level tasks as needed. You will write feature articles, edit freelance pieces, oversee multiple departments with minimal supervision, and help develop teacher resources and digital materials to accompany the student edition.

What You'll Do

• Be a self-directed, high-level contributor to the editorial process from ideation to publication for student- and teacher-facing materials, both print and digital, for SuperSTEM.
• Work with the Education Editor to align content with NGSS and state science standards and to conceive multidisciplinary STEM packages (lesson plans, activity sheets, hands-on experiments, slideshows) that fulfill our product promises.
• Write video scripts, record videos of experiments, produce slideshows, assist in digital STEM games ideation, and schedule, draft, and release e-newsletters for SuperSTEM.
• Write one or more feature articles per issue and own the process end-to-end: interviews, copy revisions, fact-check changes, layout coordination with the art director, and final approval.
• Ideate and edit teacher resources to accompany articles.
• Manage assigning and editing of student edition articles in collaboration with the Editorial Director, including requesting photos and submitting invoices for approval.
• Mentor and guide SuperSTEM’s associate editor and contributing writers for consistent tone, style, and accessibility for students.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Knowledge of core science areas and passion for science education.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Knowledge of NGSS and state science standards; experience aligning content to standards.
• Ability to interview scientists and translate research into engaging content for kids.
• Comfort talking with kids, young adults, and parents for content featuring youth in STEM.
• Proficiency with Word, Google Docs, Google Slides, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Adobe InCopy is a plus.
• Experience writing and editing science articles; teaching experience is a plus.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a major science discipline, science journalism, or primary education; Master’s degree or higher a plus.

• Master’s degree or higher preferred.
• Adobe InCopy familiarity is a plus.
