About this role

About the Role Senior Dosimetrist at Logan Health, responsible for planning radiation therapy dose distributions under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist. This role includes treatment planning for SBRT, SRS, and HDR to ensure safe, effective delivery of cancer therapies.

What You'll Do

  • Design and create treatment plans by computer and/or manual calculation with optimal beam geometry to deliver the prescribed dose while sparing normal structures.
  • Plan SBRT and SRS cases with high quality and efficiency, minimizing conflicts during treatment delivery.
  • Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures using CT, MRI and PET images; perform image registration across data sets.
  • Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery, including DRRs, CBCTs and other IGRT methods.
  • Participate in simulations and tumor localization using CT, MRI and PET; assist in planning and fabrication of compensators, shields, wedges, and other beam-modifying devices.
  • Plan and implement immobilization devices; oversee production of immobilization devices.
  • Stay educated on new technology, dose constraints for SBRT and SRS.
  • Advise radiation therapists on treatment plan implementation including immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and imaging parameters.
  • Perform calculations for accurate dose delivery; document and verify calculations per approved methods.
  • Provide assistance to the Medical Physicist in radiation safety, machine calibrations, and QA of plans and equipment; HDR planning as needed.
  • Oversee and/or assist with dosimetry methods, operate QA on treatment planning computers, and ensure new procedures fit workflow.
  • Collaborate with department members to integrate new dosimetry procedures; participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in safety programs; educate new employees and students; update dosimetry procedures to support accreditation.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance as scheduled; work within the shift structure.

What We're Looking For

  • MDCB Certification in Medical Dosimetry required.
  • ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience developing SBRT and SRS optimal treatment plans.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience with radiation safety principles, NRC regulations and other regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans per relevant protocols.
  • Proficiency with clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems.
  • Algebra and trig; introductory calculus preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics; ability to develop optimal treatment plans (preferred).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in health care informatics (preferred).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, confidentiality, and teamwork skills; ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to learn other software.

  • ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy (additional preference)

  • Health care informatics experience
  • HDR planning experience
