Job title: Senior Director and Site Head, Translational Medicine and Development Sciences China
About the Role The Senior Director and Site Head, Translational Medicine and Development Sciences China will lead a lab-enabled team of 13+ researchers and scientists, overseeing TM and DevSci activities in China and APAC. You will develop and execute biomarker, CDx and translational research strategies across multiple modalities, and guide clinical development programs in early and late-stage trials. You will represent TM China on local and global study teams and build strong collaborations with investigators and thought leaders in China and the APAC region.
What You'll Do
- Communicate and collaborate globally with Translational Medicine (TM) and Development Sciences (DevSci) leadership across Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), providing scientific leadership to the team and peers.
- Lead and drive China biomarker strategies, data analysis and interpretation, and present findings to review forums and governance committees.
- Participate and lead Roche Leadership activities including the Product Development China Leadership Team, HGRAC monitoring committee, China PHC working group, and China Medical Affairs.
- Contribute to biomarker regulatory strategy for China/APAC; interact with health authorities in China and contribute to preparation of regulatory documents.
- Develop and lead biomarker strategy and plans for medical affairs sponsored activities in China in collaboration with international medical leaders and the country medical affairs organization.
- Develop and lead biomarker collaborations with key investigators and thought leaders.
- Provide strategic oversight of DevSci-wide goals and activities in China (BioAnalytical Sciences and Clinical Pharmacology), including oversight of external service providers and Health Authority engagements; drive vision to impact programs and accelerate timelines.
- Lead educational activities to improve quality of Companion Diagnostics (CDx) assessments and translational research capabilities in China.
- Lead external engagement/collaborations in translational medicine, CDx or biomarker areas.
- Participate in selection and monitoring of external vendors and institutional collaborators to ensure high-quality data.
- Develop and present 2-5 year growth plans to global leadership.
What We're Looking For
- PhD, MD or PhD/MD in a relevant biological discipline.
- At least 12 years of biotech/pharma industry experience, with experience in technologies, biomarkers, and team leadership.
- Proven leadership capabilities in building, developing, motivating and retaining effective teams that foster productive collaborations and deliver results.
- Experience in drug development including working with vendors and CROs in China; familiarity with regulatory and government policies in China related to drug development.
- Significant experience and ability to drive decisions and enable execution on programs.
- Experience in clinical drug development and biomarkers is beneficial, including understanding of Clinical Pharmacology, Regulatory, Safety, Operations, Biostatistics, etc.
- Experience and understanding of diagnostic product development.
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to lead, influence and motivate others.
- Ability to distill complex issues and clearly articulate solutions.
- Willingness to travel as part of the global role (no more than 10%).
