Role overview
Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer, DR Lead (AWS) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) on a short-term basis (16 weeks) in Argentina. Our client is an established, third-generation family business with more than 80 years of history in wholesale protein distribution across the Pacific Northwest. Known for rigorous food-safety standards and a customer-first culture.
As the DR Lead Engineer you will own a 16-week program to prove that a 24/7 US food distributor can keep running from its AWS recovery environment if its primary data center or its connectivity is lost. Production servers are already replicated to AWS with Zerto, but production has never been failed over and failed back. You will design and lead the recovery tests in stages, from isolated tests to a full production failover and failback. You will act as the client’s single point of contact for disaster recovery and hand over a documented, repeatable DR capability that the client’s IT team can run on its own.
Requirements
-
7+ years of experience in infrastructure or DevOps, including at least two DR programs taken through real failover and failback testing.
-
Hands-on experience with AWS: EC2, VPC, site-to-site VPN, Route 53, IAM, WorkSpaces, Directory Service, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, and EBS and S3 snapshots.
-
Experience with VMware environments replicated to AWS using block-level replication (Zerto preferred).
-
Experience with backup and restore platforms such as Rubrik, including ransomware recovery scenarios.
-
Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, certificates, and file shares.
-
Experience with SQL Server recovery, including log shipping for reporting and a data warehouse.
-
Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation; scripting in PowerShell and Python.
-
Calm, structured leadership during high-pressure production windows.
-
Excellent written and spoken English; ability to run go/no-go meetings and present to executives.
-
Strong ownership and the ability to act as the client’s single point of contact for DR.
-
Clear documentation habits; ability to write runbooks that others can follow.
-
Availability for weekend test windows and willingness to work through the December holidays.
-
Will be a plus
-
AWS Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer certification
-
Microsoft Dynamics GP
-
EDI (SPS Commerce)
-
Warehouse management systems
-
Ability to travel to the US for the failover weekend
Responsibilities
-
Lead discovery: inventory servers, applications, data flows, nightly jobs, EDI endpoints, partner IP allow-lists, and hard-coded dependencies.
-
Deliver the DR assessment, gap register, and DR test plan, including acceptance, go/no-go, and rollback criteria, by week 3.
-
Facilitate recovery-target workshops and obtain business-approved RTO/RPO for every application tier.
-
Lead isolated tier failovers, a normal-day load test, and a ransomware clean-recovery test from Rubrik backups.
-
Lead staged production tests: pilot user group, user waves, failover rehearsal, and a sustained failover with failback.
-
Run the Thursday go/no-go meetings and recommend go or no-go for every production window.
-
Own the runbooks, the remediation backlog, and the weekly status report to the client’s IT director.
-
Prepare every production change, rollback plan, and user communication for the client’s change control.
-
Hand over the DR plan, RACI, and test calendar; train the IT team; run a tabletop exercise; and deliver the executive readout.
