About this role
Senior Data Platform Engineer
DESCRIPTION
-
We're looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer to take ownership of the platform that powers our data products, from real-time APIs our customers depend on to the batch pipelines behind our analytics. You'll work across a lambda architecture that combines a low-latency streaming layer built in Go with a batch layer on Google Cloud, running on infrastructure spread across AWS, Azure, and GCP in regions around the world.
-
This is a hands-on senior role with real technical leadership. Beyond building and maintaining the platform, you'll set the bar for engineering quality on the team, shape how we design services so they stay modular and scalable as we grow, and act as tech lead and mentor for junior engineers.
-
Build and evolve the data platform
-
Develop and maintain our real-time layer, including the Go-based gateway and processing engine that serve customer-facing workloads with high availability and low latency.
-
Own and improve the batch layer on GCP, working with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt to deliver reliable, well-modelled, and cost-efficient pipelines.
-
Keep the speed and batch layers consistent with each other, making sure data is correct, reconcilable, and trustworthy regardless of which path it takes.
-
Design and ship customer-facing backend services
-
Design, build, and operate backend APIs that customers use directly, with strong attention to contracts, versioning, performance, and backwards compatibility.
-
Think through failure modes, observability, and scaling up front, so services behave predictably in production.
-
Own multi-cloud infrastructure
-
Manage and evolve our infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP in multiple global regions using Terraform.
-
Improve how we structure infrastructure code through reusable modules, sensible environment separation, and safe, repeatable deployments.
-
Drive improvements in monitoring, alerting, security, and cost visibility across clouds. Participate in a shared on-call rotation for production systems.
-
Raise the bar on engineering excellence
-
Define and champion engineering standards around code quality, testing, code review, CI/CD, and documentation.
-
Lead technical design discussions and write clear design documents for significant changes, bringing the team along in the reasoning.
-
Identify technical debt and architectural weak points and build a pragmatic plan to address them alongside feature work.
-
Lead and mentor
-
Serve as tech lead for the team, guiding technical direction and helping prioritize work (this role has no direct reports).
-
Mentor two junior engineers through pairing, thoughtful code reviews, and gradually increasing ownership, helping them grow into confident, independent engineers.
REQUIREMENTS
-
-
Significant professional experience as a software or data engineer (typically 6+ years), including time spent owning production systems end to end.
-
-
Strong software engineering fundamentals: clean and modular design, testing strategies, API design, and an understanding of distributed systems trade-offs.
-
-
Experience building and operating backend services in a compiled or typed language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, Rust, or similar.
-
-
Hands-on experience with a modern data stack, ideally BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt or close equivalents.
-
-
Solid experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, and working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider in depth.
-
-
Familiarity with both real-time/streaming and batch data processing patterns, and the challenges of combining them.
-
-
A track record of mentoring others and raising the quality of the teams you've been part of.
-
-
Clear written and verbal communication, especially the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to engineers of varying experience.
-
Nice to have
-
Professional experience with Go. This is a strong plus, though we'll happily support an experienced backend engineer in going deep on it.
-
Experience running infrastructure across multiple clouds and regions, including networking, identity, and data residency considerations.
-
Background with lambda or kappa architectures, event streaming systems (such as Kafka or Pub/Sub), or high-throughput API gateways.
-
Experience with observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logging) and cloud cost optimization.
-
Our corporate language is English, please submit your application in English.
