Job title: Senior Data Engineer

About the Role Senior Data Engineer on the Data Access team at Human Interest, responsible for building and governing the data platform to power products, reporting, and metrics. This role focuses on creating AI-ready architecture and scalable data infrastructure for the company's growth.

What You'll Do

  • Define and maintain data governance standards including access controls, data lineage, and contracts between data producers and consumers
  • Lead the technical direction and evolution of our data platform toward an AI-first infrastructure, including AI tooling integration
  • Build and scale data pipelines and architectures to serve human analysts and AI systems
  • Own end-to-end design and development of scalable data pipelines (ingestion, orchestration, transformation, delivery) using AWS, Terraform, Airflow, Snowflake, dbt, Meltano
  • Drive reliability via data quality monitoring, performance optimization, and SLA-based prioritization
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate velocity
  • Mentor data engineers and analysts

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer focused on production data pipelines and infrastructure
  • Strong AWS data services experience in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake (or equivalent) including access control and cost management
  • Strong Python skills and ability to own complex production pipelines
  • Experience with workflow orchestration at scale (Airflow or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with data governance, observability, data quality, and change data capture
  • Interest in leveraging AI tools and automation to improve productivity

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data lakehouse architectures and open table formats such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake
  • Experience with dbt-core in production
  • Experience building data infrastructure to support AI-driven data access, governance frameworks for AI data, and monitoring quality of AI-generated query results
  • Background in fintech or regulated industries

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $171,000 - $207,000 per year (USD)
  • Location: Remote (United States) with potential for hybrid/onsite options
