About you and this role
Dow has an opening for a Senior Counsel in its Commercial & Innovation Law group, located in Midland, MI. In this role, you will provide legal counsel on a wide range of topics to Dow’s businesses and functions with emphasis on commercial and transactional issues within Dow’s Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure operating segment, which includes the Industrial Solutions, Polyurethanes, and Construction Chemicals business units.
Responsibilities

Be a simplifier and solver of strategic-level legal challenges for clients in a global, science and technology driven company. Review and draft legal documents, participate in business and functional meetings to proactively identify potential legal risk, handle challenging legal problems, and provide solutions to enable the end customer. Host client legal training and education on topics consistent with Legal team curriculum and risk mitigation practices. Exhibit team orientation, legal technology savviness, courage in the face of ambiguity, and bias toward action. Use strong negotiation and communication skills and manage time sensitive demands. Collaborate effectively within a team of dedicated legal professionals, business and functional clients, and non-legal colleagues. Be open to sharing, growth, and learning in a team environment aligned with the Legal department goals. Proactively communicate with Legal team management and clients. Place work with the most appropriate legal resource and delegate to paralegals and other staff to ensure proper allocation of work. Manage outside counsel and other external resources in line with Legal department policies, matching resource levels with project importance, affordability and overall risk.

Required Qualifications
-
Juris Doctor or Master of Laws. A minimum of 4 years practicing as an in-house counsel or as a corporate/commercial/transactional attorney. Admission to State Bar or eligible for admission. Ability to work legally in the United States; no visa sponsorship is available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of demonstrable competence practicing law with a major law firm or corporation. Prior manufacturing and international experience. Strong law school credentials.
