About the Role The Senior Consultant - Controls Lead, Chief Control Office is a key 1LOD role responsible for designing and implementing Northern Trust’s internal control architecture, taxonomy, inventory and quality standards. The candidate will have SME knowledge of Internal Controls and Operational Risk, with programme delivery experience, and will work in a centralized team to drive consistency in control standards, liaising with stakeholders and senior leaders.

What You'll Do

• Support design and implementation of group-wide control architecture, including taxonomy and inventory; define minimum controls for all non-financial risks.
• Manage the control inventory with quality measures and provide ongoing governance and reporting; oversight across the group via Control Owners.
• Work with Control Owners to harmonize and align controls and internal standards; seek opportunities to improve through automated controls and machine learning.
• Collaborate with 1st and 2nd line risk and control partners to develop and enhance risk and control management best practices.
• Liaise with stakeholders and senior business leaders on key initiatives; contribute to governance and reporting.
• This is a newly created function requiring self-starting abilities and delivery in a fast-paced global environment.

What We're Looking For

• Relevant experience in banking organizations, focusing on risk/control management and programme delivery.
• Experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools desirable.
• Practical experience developing and/or implementing risk and control frameworks.
• Delivery-focused mindset with project/program management experience (planning, issue management/escalation, workshops).
• Critical thinker with strong problem-solving abilities; able to organize resources and communicate with senior management, boards and stakeholders.
• Strong written and spoken communication; ability to explain complex topics clearly.
• Ability to engage diverse stakeholders, build long-term relationships, and foster collaboration.
• Strategic thinker who can execute with precision in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or related field preferred.
