About the Role
Senior Complex Director, Excess leads the investigation, evaluation, and disposition of high-value, complex third-party property and casualty claims in Excess Casualty Claims. You will oversee coverage analysis, litigation strategy, negotiations, and budgets for multimillion-dollar claims, presenting recommendations to senior management. The role requires deep technical expertise, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate with insureds, brokers, attorneys, and internal partners.
What You'll Do
- Handle some of the largest and most complex Casualty claims, including multimillion-dollar losses, investigations, evaluations, and disposition of new and existing 3rd party property and casualty claims.
- Review coverage under Excess Commercial General Liability and auto policies and participate in the investigation and documentation of exposure, liability, and damages.
- Direct litigation, attend mediations and trials, assess liability and damages, and recommend reserves; present large value cases to senior management; obtain appropriate authority to negotiate.
- Develop investigation strategies identifying critical issues affecting liability, causation, and damages; assess risk transfer and contribution opportunities; document evaluation and strategy.
- Manage communications with insureds, brokers, attorneys, claimants, underwriters; maintain clear ground rules and expectations; budget litigation with defense and coverage counsel to maintain financial control.
- Utilize ADR as appropriate; lead discussions with counsel, vendors, and insureds to strategize and budget each claim.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of Commercial/Industry claims experience (preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong negotiation abilities.
- Advanced experience in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation.
- Experience handling claims pre-suit through post-trial, including mediations and settlement conferences.
- JD helpful but not required.
- Property & Casualty adjusting licenses required; must be obtained within 6 months.
- Interest in an upwardly mobile career path.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary ranges (by location): New York: $118,000-$173,000; Chicago: $125,000-$173,000; Boston: $136,000-$170,000.
- Eligible for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.
