Job title: Senior Clinical Editor

About the Role ICON seeks a Senior Clinical Editor to ensure the accuracy, clarity, and quality of scientific documents related to clinical development. The role involves internal QC of nonclinical documents, copyediting, cross-referencing, and publishing to submission-ready standards, with collaboration across Medical Writing Operations and process-improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Perform internal document QC review of nonclinical documents (e.g., Drug Metabolism, CMC, Toxicology, Translational Science, Preclinical) to ensure compliance with the client Style Guide, template formatting, and submission-ready standards.
  • Copyedit/proofread for grammar, style, and format according to AMA and client style guides.
  • Ensure internal consistency and confirm that data are reported correctly; ensure statements reflect a common message and that text, tables, figures, and appendices are accurately presented.
  • Check the reference list in documents, verify citation information via PubMed, order copies of references, and add to the EDMS; ensure each reference is cross-referenced in the document.
  • Proofread documents against standard templates to ensure compliance with required sections and text.
  • Publish PDFs to client submission-ready standards; may involve compiling multiple PDF files including appendices.
  • Assist Medical Writing Operations staff with clinical document QC and publishing, as appropriate.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and support Medical Writing staff with other tasks.
  • May interact cross-functionally to support clinical and nonclinical processes and template updates.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Basic Science, or other analytical field with 4+ years related pharmaceutical industry experience or 8+ years of experience in a discipline directly related to document production (e.g., medical writing, QC, editing, publishing).
  • Strong working knowledge of editorial and publishing activities within Clinical Development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word (formatting tables, inserting cross-references, applying styles, templates); experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Adobe.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe PDF bookmarking and internal/external hyperlinking to meet submission-ready standards.
  • Experience using an EDMS (e.g., Veeva Vault or SharePoint).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with vendors and manage outsourced editorial work.
  • Keen attention to detail; ability to manage multiple activities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
