About this role

About the Role WilmerHale seeks a Senior BI Engineer to design, implement, and maintain Microsoft Fabric artifacts (Lake House, Warehouse, Semantical Models, Pipelines, Notebooks, Reports, and more). You will advise Power BI report developers on dimensional modeling and tabular design best practices and help align data analytics platforms with business requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure alignment between the data analytics platforms (Data Warehouse) environment and business requirements.
  • Extend existing and create new MS Fabric data solutions using the full breadth of components within that platform.
  • Use DAX scripting, tables, relationships, and roles in Semantic Models and leverage Lake House and Warehouse components in MS Fabric.
  • Collaborate with a team of BI Engineers to identify and implement a path forward for AI-assisted BI development in MS Fabric.
  • Create and deliver end-user training and documentation; provide second-line support to power users who develop reports.
  • Lead application deployments, upgrades, and patch planning.
  • Participate in daily scrum meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of technology developments and make recommendations to the Manager, Data Analytics Services.
  • Participate in software licensing and support agreement discussions.
  • Assist with resolution of escalated incidents and participate in problem management activities; assume ownership of level 3 support.
  • Assist in evaluating the business relevance and requirements of projects under consideration.
  • Maintain existing data solutions; design and build from the ground up new data solutions including data warehousing dimensional models.
  • Mentor junior developers; assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, deliver high-quality service, and maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments, external clients, and vendors via electronic, telephone, and in-person interactions.

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Real-Time Intelligence).
  • Intermediate knowledge in developing Azure Data Factory pipelines to copy data from/to MSSQL, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Experience in design, build, and management of scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
  • Experience with SQL (T-SQL preferred) and basic Python or PySpark for notebook-based transformations.
  • Experience with DevOps version control and CI/CD for BI assets; ability to configure and manage CI/CD in Microsoft DevOps, supporting Azure Data Factory and Microsoft SQL Stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
  • Working knowledge of data processing using Azure Data Factory, Azure Key Vault, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Storage Accounts.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to translate business questions into reports, views, and SQL queries.
  • Expert knowledge of data warehouse architecture, data design patterns, and data transformation best practices for medium-to-large data volumes.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with T-SQL and dimensional modeling.
  • Proficiency in Power BI for report development, semantic modeling, and deployment pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle hundreds of millions of records.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of DAX scripting.
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language for predictive analytics (R or Python) is a plus.
  • Hands-on expertise with MS Fabric Semantic Model or MS Analysis Services Cube using the Tabular model in a medium-to-large enterprise.
  • Manage and maintain Power BI/Fabric gateways (installation, configuration, user access, and troubleshooting data source connectivity).
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-direction, initiative in researching, experimenting, and troubleshooting before escalation.
  • Good knowledge of server hardware, storage, and infrastructure; experience supporting a 24x7 production environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL and Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF).
