About the Role

Join Retool's Core Services team to design and evolve the backend infrastructure powering key product capabilities. You will drive architecture for robust, secure, and efficient core services, including secure sandboxing, connections, streaming, and production systems on AWS EKS. The role focuses on building scalable, enterprise-grade backend that safely processes data and connects customers' data sources.

What You'll Do

• Drive architectural design and redesign of core Retool backend services, ensuring robustness, security, and efficiency, including areas such as secure sandboxing, connection pooling, and streaming.

• Use secure runtime and sandboxing technologies like WASM and seccomp filters.

• Own production services running in Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS).

• Collaborate across multiple teams and with customers to deliver scalable backend solutions.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in critical services.

• Advocate for security best practices and reliability.

• What We're Looking For

• 6+ years of professional software development experience (startup experience preferred).

• Built, maintained, debugged, and scaled backend systems and distributed services.

• Keen understanding of security best practices and experience designing secure systems.

• Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in critical services.

• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP), along with Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively across multiple teams.

• Nice to Have

• Familiarity with TypeScript and Node.

• Right-sized compute clusters, managed autoscaling groups, etc.

• Understanding OS-level containerization and execution environments.

• Built fault-tolerant message queues, worker pools, or distributed value stores.

• Experience analyzing and tackling unusual or new workloads.

• Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $163,800 – $306,000 per year (USD).
