Job Title: Senior Backend Developer

Location: Tin Can Island, Apapa, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

The Senior Backend Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing robust backend applications and database systems.
The role requires strong hands-on expertise in C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, .NET Core, Blazor Web App, ASP.NET Web Forms, and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
The successful candidate will develop reliable, secure, scalable, and high-performing applications, maintain existing systems, troubleshoot technical issues, and collaborate with relevant teams to deliver quality software solutions aligned with business requirements.

Backend Development and Application Engineering:

Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications using C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, and .NET Core.
Build and maintain web applications using Blazor Web App and ASP.NET Web Forms.
Develop reusable, maintainable, and efficient code in line with established coding standards and software development best practices.
Translate business and technical requirements into functional software solutions.
Maintain and enhance existing applications while ensuring compatibility, reliability, and performance.
Identify opportunities to improve application architecture, code quality, and system efficiency.

Database Management and Optimization:

Design, develop, maintain, and optimize databases using Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database scripts.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, security, and efficient retrieval.
Troubleshoot database-related issues and improve query performance.
Support database maintenance, backup, recovery, and performance monitoring in collaboration with relevant teams.

Application Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Diagnose, investigate, and resolve complex application defects, performance issues, and system errors.
Conduct code reviews, debugging, testing, and performance optimization.
Maintain and improve legacy applications, including systems built with ASP.NET Web Forms and VB.NET.
Implement fixes, updates, and enhancements while minimizing disruption to business operations.
Document technical issues, resolutions, system changes, and application configurations.

System Integration and Performance:

Develop and maintain application components and integrations required for effective communication between systems.
Ensure applications are responsive, reliable, scalable, and capable of supporting business needs.
Apply appropriate security practices to protect application functionality and data.
Identify and address performance bottlenecks across backend services and database operations.
Support the deployment, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of applications.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

Develop and execute unit tests and other relevant technical tests to validate application functionality.
Identify and resolve defects before deployment.
Ensure code meets defined quality, security, maintainability, and performance standards.
Participate in technical reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
Provide technical support during user acceptance testing and production releases where required.

Collaboration and Technical Documentation:

Work with frontend developers, software engineers, business analysts, quality assurance personnel, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
Participate in requirements analysis, technical planning, and solution design.
Provide technical guidance and support to other developers where necessary.
Prepare and maintain clear documentation covering application architecture, database structures, code changes, and system procedures.
Communicate technical issues, progress, and proposed solutions effectively.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
Relevant professional certifications or additional technical training will be an advantage.
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in backend development.
Demonstrable hands-on experience developing and maintaining applications using C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, and .NET Core.
Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database development and optimization.
Experience working with both modern .NET applications and legacy ASP.NET Web Forms systems.
A strong track record of troubleshooting complex software issues and delivering reliable application solutions.

Required Technical Skills:

Database: Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), SQL queries, stored procedures, database design, and performance optimization.
Programming Languages: C# and VB.NET.
Frameworks: ASP.NET and .NET Core.
Platforms and Technologies: Blazor Web App and ASP.NET Web Forms.
Software Engineering: Object-oriented programming, debugging, testing, code optimization, application maintenance, and technical documentation.
Problem-Solving: Ability to investigate complex technical issues and implement effective, sustainable solutions.

N1,500,000 - N1,800,000 / month.
