Job title: Senior Automation Controls Engineer

About the Role As a member of Lear's Automation team, the Senior Automation Controls Engineer will lead, support, implement, and manage automation projects while driving standards across North America. The role requires developing concepts, aiding in mechanical-electrical design, installing and training receiving plants, and providing ongoing support for robot cells. The candidate may act as a subject-matter expert and project lead for other integrators.

What You'll Do

  • Lead projects from technical specification to startup support for automation cells.
  • Design and develop all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and programming using Lear standards, with room for innovation.
  • Write, implement, and debug PLC software (RSLogix/Studio 5000, etc.), and develop contingency/disaster recovery plans.
  • Support installation, launch, and production of all cells; support implementation of proven and new automation.
  • Create robust programming to maximize equipment uptime with minimal ongoing intervention.
  • Document and reuse control standards to define requirements for automated cells.
  • Travel up to 30-40% within North America as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Software Engineering.
  • 5-15 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Expert knowledge of RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio5000, FactoryTalk View Studio; familiarity with Visual Basic, C++, C#, Python.
  • Robotics programming with Fanuc and Universal Robots; basic understanding of robotics.
  • Knowledgeable in I/O Link, AB components, drive control, Keyence cameras, and industrial networking.
  • Experience with vision systems to guide robot offsets; reading/writing electrical drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of safety standards (OSHA 1910, ANSI/RIA 15.06) and risk assessments for automated equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with external manufacturing systems/MES and OPC; experience with SCADA.
  • Creative, results-oriented, detail-focused, self-driven; willing to work long installation hours; up to 40% travel.
  • Bonus: AGV/AMR experience; team development and Kaizen support.
