Job title: Senior Associate, Global External Manufacturing
About the Role Gilead’s Senior Associate, Global External Manufacturing ensures an uninterrupted supply of clinical and commercial products by executing manufacturing campaigns within our global external contract manufacturing network, while maintaining compliance with cGMP, regulatory requirements, and EH&S guidelines. This role sits in the Manufacturing Operations group within the Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM) and requires collaboration across Development, Quality, Regulatory, Analytical, Supply Chain, and Product & Portfolio Strategy to enable technology transfer, commercialization, and lifecycle management. The position is based at the Gilead Foster City campus.
What You'll Do
- Execute the network strategy and manage external manufacturing organizations to align with Gilead's goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional PDM teams to achieve corporate, cross-functional, and department objectives.
- Coordinate inter- and intra-company technical transfers; partner with Technical Development and internal Gilead sites for transfer and validation to CMOs.
- Manage CMOs to ensure manufacturing per registered process and Master Production Record.
- Rapidly resolve manufacturing or compliance issues (deviations, investigations, complaints, OOS, MRB investigations, trending, change control).
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce cost, improve quality, increase efficiency, and support sustainability.
- May represent manufacturing on cross-functional Development or Commercial CMC teams, guiding product strategy from clinical supply to launch and ongoing lifecycle management.
What We're Looking For
- Basic Qualifications: BA/BS in science or engineering with 5+ years in pharma/biotech; or MS/MBA may substitute for 2 years of experience.
- Experience in drug product manufacturing and supply chain execution/oversight in pharmaceutical industry.
- Knowledge and application of manufacturing principles governed by cGMP.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of worldwide regulatory requirements including ICH guidance.
- Familiarity with the CMO landscape and capabilities for worldwide drug product manufacturing.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 20%.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication with senior management at Gilead and CMOs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: USD 117,895.00 – 152,570.00 per year.
- Eligible for discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility varies by role).
