Senior Associate, Bunker Trading
About the Role
- The Senior Associate, Bunker Trading will originate and execute bunker trading opportunities, develop client and supplier relationships, and contribute directly to trading volumes and profitability.
- Working under the Lead, International Bunker Trading, the successful candidate will manage assigned accounts and transactions, negotiate commercial terms within approved limits, and coordinate reliable delivery. Performance will be assessed against agreed volume, margin, client development, and execution targets.
Key Responsibilities

Identify and pursue profitable bunker trading opportunities across assigned markets.

Develop and manage relationships with shipowners, vessel operators, brokers, suppliers, and trading partners.

Obtain and assess supplier quotations, prepare competitive offers, and negotiate commercial terms within approved authority.

Execute spot and term transactions in line with trading strategy and approved risk limits.

Monitor bunker prices, vessel movements, supply availability, and market developments to inform trading decisions.

Grow assigned accounts and develop new business to meet agreed volume and margin targets.

Coordinate with suppliers, agents, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery against agreed specifications and terms.

Review trade economics, including product costs, logistics charges, payment terms, and expected margins.

Prepare and maintain accurate trade confirmations, contracts, delivery records, and transaction reports.

Support counterparty screening and credit assessments, escalating exposures or exceptions before commitments are made.

Work with Finance to monitor receivables, resolve invoice discrepancies, and support timely collections.

Support the resolution of delivery issues, quantity or quality disputes, and commercial claims.

Ensure transactions follow applicable regulations, sanctions requirements, and internal procedures.

Provide regular updates on the sales pipeline, completed trades, margins, and market opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Maritime Studies, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum of four years of relevant experience in bunker trading, marine fuel sales, oil trading, or commodities trading.

Demonstrated experience originating or executing transactions and contributing to commercial targets.

Strong understanding of bunker products, pricing, supply markets, and shipping logistics.

Experience managing client and supplier relationships and negotiating commercial terms.

Working knowledge of international trade documentation, counterparty risk, and credit controls.

An established network within the bunkering or shipping industry is an advantage.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and trading or CRM systems.

Salary
N1,000,000 - N1,500,000 per month.
