More than just a project management position

We’re looking for someone who wants to help us build a practice, mentor talented scientists, develop lasting client relationships, and become a recognized technical leader in aquatic science throughout the region. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the direction of the practice while working alongside an established team of environmental professionals known for technical excellence and responsive client service.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Aquatic Scientist, you’ll help grow Wilcox & Barton, Inc.’s aquatic sciences capabilities by:

• Leading complex water resources and aquatic ecology projects throughout New England.

• Building and growing new water resources and aquatic sciences practice that complements our existing environmental permitting, ecological restoration, and natural resource services.

• Developing long-term relationships with municipalities, state and federal agencies, utilities, watershed organizations, and private-sector clients.

• Mentoring junior scientists and helping cultivate the next generation of aquatic professionals.

• Identifying new market opportunities and collaborating with firm leadership on strategic growth.

• Leading proposal development, project planning, budgeting, and technical quality.

• Serving as a trusted technical advisor to clients and regulatory agency

• Technical Expertise

We’re seeking someone with broad experience in several of the following areas:

• Water resources and watershed science

• Aquatic plant community assessment

• Lake and watershed management

• Aquatic invasive species management

• Macroinvertebrate community assessment

• Fisheries assessment and habitat evaluation

• Wildlife studies and habitat assessment

• Aquatic and ecological restoration

• Water quality monitoring and assessment

• Environmental permitting and regulatory compliance

• Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fisheries Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Biology, or a related discipline.

• 10 to 15 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental consulting or natural resource management.

• Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary projects and client relationships.

• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

• Experience mentoring staff and leading technical teams.

• Familiarity with state and local environmental regulations and permitting programs.

• Existing professional relationships within New England are highly desirable.

• Experience working on federal contracts (e.g. US EPA, USACE) is also desirable.
