Senior Application Engineer
Position Summary
Responsible for developing and validating light microscope applications and solutions. Work closely with cus-tomers to understand pain points and market trends and translate them into system requirements. Collaborate with ZEISS global R&D and third-party partners, and provide application support / solutions to Product Man-agement, Sales, and Marketing to drive customer success and business growth.
Main Task
l Develop, optimize, and validate light microscope applications and workflows for customer use cases.
l Work directly with customers to understand their samples, workflows, and pain points, and define corresponding application requirements.
l Translate customer and application requirements into clear input for Product Management and R&D (features, specifications, usability improvements).
l Create and maintain application-related documentation and materials (application notes, demo scripts, user guides, slide decks).
l Support global product launches with application scenarios, demo stories, and technical enablement content.
l Contribute application feedback to competitive analysis and partner solution evaluation.
Collaborate closely with global cross-functional teams (Product Management, R&D, Marketing, Sales, Service) to ensure customer application needs are addressed.
Education
- Master’s degree or above in Biology, Clinical or related science field.
Experience
-
l Typically 5+ years of experience as Application Engineer, Field Application Engineer, or Technical Support Engineer on light microscopes

l Strong hands-on skills in system setup, integration, and application testing.

l Proven experience in working directly with customers on application development, validation, and issue resolution.

l Ability to translate customer workflows and requirements into clear technical specifications and improvement proposals.

l Solid problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex application issues and drive root cause resolution.

l Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

l Fluent in English (written and spoken).

l Willingness to travel to customer sites and other ZEISS locations as required.
