Job title: Senior Analytical Chemist
About the Role
The Senior Analytical Chemist will develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products. They will lead complex analyses, troubleshoot instruments, and provide technical expertise in a GMP-regulated laboratory supporting manufacturing and R&D.
What You'll Do
- Develop, validate, and transfer complex analytical methods for raw materials and finished products.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation (HPLC, GC, DSC, FTIR, UV-Vis, GPC, particle size, NIR, auto-titrators, etc.).
- Critically analyze data, manage investigation studies (OOS), and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality guidelines.
- Execute analytical method development plans and maintain test method documentation.
- Collaborate with technical staff to conduct analyses for research projects, non-conforming products, new product introductions, and nonstandard tests.
- Coordinate and advise laboratory personnel in test procedures for analyzing components and physical properties of materials.
- Troubleshoot analytical and physical property tests to ensure accurate results in a timely manner.
- Provide after-hours support as needed to assist lab supervisor and technicians with testing issues impacting production.
- Prepare summary reports from laboratory data to ensure compliance with regulatory/quality standards and customer requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment; perform general maintenance, calibrations, standard preparations, and preventive maintenance.
- Identify instrumentation improvements or replacements and justify budgets to management.
- Coordinate and manage 3rd party service contracts as needed.
- Respond to operational needs, which may extend beyond standard hours.
What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with 5+ years of related experience, or Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry with 10+ years of experience.
- Experience with test method development, validation, and technical transfers is preferred.
- Computer skills: MS Word and Excel; LIMS experience a plus.
- Excellent laboratory skills and good mechanical aptitude; broad organic chemistry knowledge; expert level knowledge of chromatography and spectroscopy techniques.
- Technical skills include implementation, operation, and troubleshooting of analytical test methods and instrumentation including gas chromatography, HPLC, GPC, pH, DSC, particle size, UV-Vis, FT-IR, auto-titrators, etc.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills; ability to initiate, collaborate, and maintain positive relationships with team and customers; effective communication; decisive and organized; strong critical thinking.
