Job title: Senior Analyst, Financial Institutions, Ratings

About the Role The Senior Analyst/Associate Director will be part of S&P Global Ratings' Financial Institutions team in Tokyo, responsible for analyzing banks, NBFIs and the financial sector to determine credit ratings. You will contribute to timely publication of press releases and reports, communicate methodology to clients, monitor issuers, and engage with issuers and investors.

What You'll Do

  • Analyzing pertinent information and data necessary for determining ratings on banks/NBFIs and their debt issues
  • Making recommendations and presenting to rating committees
  • Drafting press releases, issuer-specific reports, and industry commentaries in a fast-paced environment with publication deadlines
  • Explaining S&P Global's rating methodology and procedures to external clients
  • Continuous monitoring of operating performance of rated companies, including reviews of public filings and private information supplied by issuers, and participation in client meetings
  • Meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters and assisting in resolving clients' analytical needs
  • Contributing to S&P Global's global and regional analytical sector forums, and authoring related commentaries

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree, CFA charter holder or CPA is a plus
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in the financial industry; analytical or research experience is a plus
  • Good understanding of financial markets, business environments and relevant regulations – especially in banking or non-bank financial sectors
  • Strong financial statement analysis skills and accounting knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (Japanese language primarily used with internal/external stakeholders)
  • Demonstrated ability to give effective verbal presentations to senior executives
  • Highly motivated team player who can work autonomously in a global, multicultural and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports (mainly for internal) in English; external reports may be translated

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree, CFA charter holder or CPA is a plus
  • Additional five years of relevant experience in financial services, analytics or research (if mentioned)
