About this role
Job title: Senior AI Systems Engineer
About the Role Join Gamma to own the core AI systems powering our text, image, and layout generation at massive scale. This role focuses on productizing existing foundation models—prompting, evaluating, and fine-tuning—and expanding capabilities into new modalities like voice and video. You’ll own uptime, latency, and cost across the AI stack and collaborate with engineering and product to ship improvements used by millions.
In this role you’ll thrive as a tinkerer who loves pushing foundation models to their limits, comfortable writing prompts and production code, and blending prompt engineering with software engineering to unlock new AI capabilities. Our team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
What You'll Do
- Own the core AI systems powering Gamma's products (models, prompts, pipelines) for text, image, and layout generation at scale.
- Productize foundation models: prompting, evaluating, and fine-tuning for maximum performance across Gamma's product surface.
- Launch new modalities (voice and video) and build the evaluation infrastructure to measure what "good" looks like.
- Own uptime, latency, and cost across the AI stack; collaborate with engineering and product to ship improvements used by millions.
- Embrace a tinkerer mindset: write prompts and production code, combining prompt engineering with software engineering to unlock new AI capabilities.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to ship features that millions of users feel immediately.
What We're Looking For
- Experience productizing foundation models (not just training new ones).
- Strong prompt engineering skills and ability to write production-grade code.
- Experience evaluating, fine-tuning, and deploying models at scale.
- Ability to build or contribute to evaluation infrastructure for ML systems.
- Interest in expanding modalities to voice and video; familiarity with multimodal AI is a plus.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, collaborative environment; able to work in SF in-office 4-5 days/week; hybrid/remote as needed.
Nice to Have
- Experience deploying AI at scale with millions of users; strong cost/performance tradeoff sense.
- Familiarity with uptime engineering and performance optimization.
- Experience with voice or video modalities or audio processing.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 – $300,000 USD per year, plus benefits & equity.
