Senior AI Data Engineer

Role overview

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior AI Data Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Ukraine. Our client is an expert network that provides consulting services to businesses over the phone and in person at conferences, teleconferences, custom events, and workshops.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. 6+ years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering and Generative AI. Proven track record of designing, building, and scaling distributed, production-grade systems. Strong knowledge of Python, a major backend framework such as FastAPI or Flask, and asynchronous programming (asyncio). In-depth understanding of designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and the complete operational lifecycle including comprehensive testing, CI/CD (ArgoCD), observability, monitoring, alerting, maintaining high uptime, and executing zero-downtime deployments. Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable) using containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm).

Experience

• 2+ years of experience building applications that leverage large language models from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini; practical experience with modern LLM patterns such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and hybrid search using vector databases (Pinecone, Elasticsearch); understanding of multi-agent AI systems with tool calls and prompt engineering.

• AI System Design and Evaluation: Experience designing and implementing robust evaluation frameworks for LLM-based systems, including rubric-based scoring, LLM Judges, or using tools like MLflow, alongside monitoring for performance and drift.

• Large-Scale Data Processing: Familiarity with large-scale data processing platforms and tools such as Databricks and Apache Spark.

• Familiarity with the Modern AI Stack: Practical experience with libraries and frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex for building LLM-powered applications. Nice to have experience with Databricks Genie implementation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale distributed, production-grade backend systems using Python and frameworks like FastAPI or Flask, leveraging asynchronous programming (asyncio) for high-throughput services. Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices, owning their full operational lifecycle from development through production. Write comprehensive test suites and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD) to support reliable, zero-downtime deployments. Implement observability, monitoring, and alerting to maintain high system uptime and quickly diagnose production issues. Deploy and manage applications on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable). Containerize services with Docker and orchestrate with Kubernetes and Helm. Build production applications leveraging LLM providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini. Implement modern LLM patterns including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), hybrid search with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Elasticsearch), multi-agent systems with tool calling, and prompt engineering. Develop LLM-powered applications using frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex. Design and implement evaluation frameworks for LLM-based systems, including rubric-based scoring and LLM-as-judge approaches, using tools like MLflow. Monitor deployed AI systems for performance degradation and model/data drift.
