Position Summary: Keep the Department Moving. Empower Students. Support Faculty. The University of Dayton invites qualified applicants to apply for our Senior Administrative Assistant opening within our Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position offering health and dental insurance, retirement, paid time off, tuition assistance and more. This position will provide administrative support to the department chair and faculty of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. This includes developing and managing main office administrative functions that allow the department to run efficiently and smoothly, assisting in all logistical aspects of departmental event planning and execution, hiring, supervising, and training undergraduate student employees, providing personal, e-mail, and telephone reception to a wide constituency, and assisting with the maintenance of marketing materials for student recruitment. The position will also monitor all departmental-wide budget and purchasing, including restricted funds and gift/endowment funds. The administrative assistant will also regularly interact with and support students, therefore contributing to their overall satisfaction with the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years of full-time administrative support experience in a professional office environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to use appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Experience protecting and maintaining the confidentiality of information.
  • Experience managing and reconciling budgets and analyzing financial data.
  • Experience with supporting the hiring function within a professional organization.

Preferred Qualifications: While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Associates Degree.
  • Ability to work as a cooperative member of a professional office.
  • Experience supervising and delegating work to others in a professional environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Banner self-service.
  • Experience with Cognos.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience with Canva.
