About this role

Rack & Riddle

Rack & Riddle Custom Wine Services, the #1 custom sparkling wine producer in the United States, is seeking to add a Senior Accountant to our team.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for core general ledger accounting, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and fixed asset and lease accounting. Reporting to the Controller, this role is a key contributor to the month-end close and provides hands-on support to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment, takes ownership of their work, and is eager to modernize how we work through ERP automation and AI tools across NetSuite, Stampli, and Vintrace. This role offers a clear path for growth, with the opportunity to take on increasing ownership and develop into an Accounting Manager position as the department grows.

Essential Responsibilities

The following reflects the essential functions of this role but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

Month-End Close & General Ledger

  • Drive the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close alongside the Controller by owning assigned close tasks and completing them accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reclassifications.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policy.

Account Reconciliations

  • Own monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, including cash, fixed assets, accrued expenses and liabilities, and clearing accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner and maintain clear supporting documentation.
  • Identify recurring reconciliation issues and recommend root-cause fixes.
  • Lead efforts to standardize and automate reconciliation workpapers.

Fixed Assets

  • Own and manage the Fixed Asset List and subledger, including asset additions, transfers, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
  • Track construction-in-progress and capital projects and place assets in service in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Operations and Finance on capital expenditure tracking and support the annual budget.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Support

  • Serve as the escalation point for Accounts Payable on coding questions, vendor setup, and invoice research.
  • Serve as backup to the Senior Revenue Accountant on billing, cash application, and collections as needed.
  • Research and resolve vendor and customer account discrepancies.
  • Recommend workflow improvements to increase AP and AR accuracy and efficiency.

Systems, Automation & AI

  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation with computer systems.
  • Apply AI tools to streamline reconciliations, reporting, and routine accounting tasks.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with system administrators on testing and implementation of system changes.

Reporting & Audit

  • Prepare account analyses and flux explanations as requested by the Controller.
  • Prepare audit schedules and documentation for assigned areas.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over fixed asset and disbursement processes.

Requirements

The successful candidate's background includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (preferred).

  • 5+ years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience, including month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Manufacturing, wine or spirits industry experience preferred.

  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred); experience with Accounts Payable Automation Systems (Stampli) or Winemaking Systems (Vintrace) a plus.

  • Hands-on experience using AI tools or automation to improve accounting workflows highly valued.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and fixed asset accounting.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Self-starter who takes initiative, embraces change, and is eager to learn.

  • Interest in growing into a leadership role, including training and reviewing the work of others.

  • Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner across departments.

  • Schedule requirement: on-site during initial training period; hybrid thereafter (up to 2 remote days per week).
