About this role

About the job

Who we are

Getting benefits shouldn't feel like a part-time job. For too many families, it does: a stack of forms, a wall of deadlines, and one missing document standing between them and help they already qualify for.

Mirza is changing that. We build public benefits infrastructure that matches people to the programs they're eligible for, helps them apply once across programs, and keeps them covered as the rules shift. That's 200+ programs across all 50 states, including Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and childcare subsidies.

Government agencies, health plans, health systems, employers, community colleges, and unions use Mirza to reach the people they serve. Unfortunately, the stakes are about to get higher. New federal Medicaid requirements take effect January 1, 2027, affecting roughly 20 million adults, and states need a better way to make sure eligible people don't lose coverage over paperwork. We're building exactly that and we would love for you to join us.

About the role

We're looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant to help manage and strengthen our accounting function, working closely with our external accounting partners while supporting broader financial reporting and analysis.

You'll serve as the primary internal point of contact for accounting matters, coordinating monthly close activities, reviewing financial records for accuracy, and taking ownership of key accounting processes, including AP/AR, reconciliations, and revenue and expense tracking. You'll also work closely with finance leadership to monitor company spending, track budgets, and prepare financial and operational reports.

What you’ll do

Accounting & Financial Close

  • Work closely with external accounting partners to coordinate and review monthly and quarterly close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Take ownership of select accounting activities and schedules, including revenue recognition, expense accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Review financial records and reporting for accuracy, proactively identifying discrepancies, resolving issues, and improving accounting processes.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage day-to-day AP/AR processes, including vendor payments, customer invoicing, collections, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee corporate card transactions, employee reimbursements, and expense tracking.
  • Support payroll administration, tax preparation, and compliance activities in coordination with internal and external partners.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Monitor company spending across departments, employees, vendors, and customers, including budget-versus-actual analysis.
  • Maintain financial spreadsheets and reporting tools, supporting management reporting, sales pipeline tracking, and other ad hoc analyses.
  • Support other finance-related projects and initiatives as the company grows.

What we’re looking for

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for monthly financial close.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with an ability to independently identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of accrual accounting principles, US GAAP, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and expense management (experience with Ramp is a plus).
  • Strong proficiency in both Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software.
  • Comfortable managing recurring deadlines, shifting priorities, and a broad range of accounting and finance responsibilities.
  • Proactive and resourceful, with a willingness to take ownership of tasks big or small.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in accurate work, and is excited to make an impact as part of a small, collaborative team. We aren't expecting you to be an expert in everything described above. If you check most of the boxes, and are ready to roll up your sleeves and learn, we’d love to hear from you.
