About the Role
SEIU Local 221 Organizer-Representative based in San Diego, CA is responsible for organizing, representing, and mobilizing workers. The role focuses on building collective worker power through base-building, contract campaigns, and political education, and includes leadership development, strategic campaigns, and worker rights advocacy. What You'll Do

Sustain strategic engagement and expansion of our base by connecting workers into activities related to organizing, representation, and politics.

Develop members to become capable of executing important union roles, ensuring opportunities to grow, learn, and lead.

Create and design new member roles connected to the Local Union’s mission, drawing on members' talents and networks to become self-sustaining.

Educate member-leaders and promote the Local Union’s vision across organizing, politics, and community initiatives.

Conduct Labor-Management meetings, “meet and confers,” chapter meetings, etc., to optimize participation and leadership development.

Where appropriate, negotiate contracts and plan and execute contract campaigns with maximum member participation and leadership engagement.

Represent workers collectively and individually, including formal communications with employer representatives and informal troubleshooting of workplace issues.

Be prepared to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary. What We're Looking For

Ability to lead, motivate and inspire members to develop into leaders and participate in key union programs (e.g., politics, organizing, bargaining).

Demonstrated understanding of organizing and how it can empower members and improve workers’ lives.

Ability to take initiative and be creative in developing new roles for members and non-union workers within the Local Union, and provide needed support.

Sound interpersonal and communication skills for a quality member experience and the ability to build respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

Working knowledge of collective bargaining issues and principles of representation and contract enforcement.

Ability to develop member leaders to deal with worksite issues.

Sound organizational skills to manage and prioritize work in a dynamic and changing environment, both individually and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to formulate and deliver on short-term and long-term member development and capacity-building goals. Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is $68,640.00 – $89,520.47 per year. Benefits include a car allowance, health care, dental, prescription, vision, retirement plans, and vacation/time off policy.
