About the Role SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Organizer is based in Yakima, WA and joins a growing team focused on worksite-based organizing, bargaining, and building a strong, member-led union across the Pacific Northwest and Montana. The role advances economic and racial justice by developing leaders, planning strategic actions, and mobilizing members to win better jobs and safer staffing. What You'll Do
- Engage in Leadership Development: identify and foster existing and new union leaders and activists’ growth.
- Promote Racial Justice and combat white supremacy through inclusive organizing.
- Plan actions to win improvements in the workplace and promote workplace democracy and justice.
- Mobilize members to participate in community, political, and union opportunities.
- Listen actively to determine workplace concerns and share information with new and existing members.
- Welcome and educate new members about unions and opportunities for involvement.
- Build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds; bilingual skills are a plus.
- External or new organizing: work with non-union healthcare workers to form their union; engage worksite leaders and member organizers toward winning union elections and first contracts; articulate a plan to win and GOTV. What We're Looking For
- Experience in organizing, leadership development, and campaigns.
- Ability to engage diverse workers, promote racial justice, and champion workplace democracy.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and active listening skills.
- Willingness to work in-person at worksites and travel as needed.
- Commitment to social justice, immigrant and women communities, and equity in healthcare. Nice to Have
- Bilingual skills; ability to communicate in multiple languages is a plus. Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary ranging from $81,864.36 to $113,589.37, dependent on experience (USD yearly).
- Position is covered by a Staff Union with a collective bargaining agreement.
