Job Description:

Role summary

Owns survey control, topographic surveying, and construction layout support for an assigned segment of the I-24 Choice Lanes corridor. Acts as the segment's principal technical authority on survey data, directing field crews and producing the monthly production and quantity measurements that feed the project's Master quantities and pay-estimate process. Reports to the BIM/Survey Manager and works closely with segment construction, design/BIM and project controls teams.

Responsibilities

  • · Lead and supervise the survey crews and field technicians assigned to the segment (mainline, bridges, drainage, retaining walls, and utility relocations).

  • · Establish, maintain and verify horizontal and vertical control networks within the segment, tying them into the project's Master control network.

  • · Own the 3D design model interface for the segment using Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD), coordinating with the design/BIM team to keep survey data aligned with current alignments and surfaces.

  • · Process, adjust and QA/QC all field survey data using Trimble Business Center (TBC), including GNSS, robotic total station, and laser-scan data.

  • · Perform and certify the segment's monthly production and quantity measurements, reconciling them against the project's Master quantities, schedule of values and pay estimate.

  • · Deploy and manage robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS (RTK and network rover), 3D laser scanning, and UAS/drone-based photogrammetry for progress verification, volumetric analysis, and as-built documentation.

  • · Support GPS/GNSS machine-control data pushes for grading, paving and earthwork operations within the segment.

  • · Produce and maintain segment as-built records, cross-sections, digital terrain models (DTMs) and topographic surfaces.

  • · Coordinate closely with the Project (Master) Survey Manager and other Segment Survey Managers to keep datums, coding structures and QA/QC standards consistent across the corridor.

  • · Provide verified measurement data to project controls, scheduling and QA/QC teams to support monthly progress reviews.

  • · Ensure all segment survey work complies with TDOT specifications and the project's survey management plan.

  • · Coordinate with third-party surveyors, utility companies and TDOT survey personnel on segment-specific matters.

  • · Maintain segment survey equipment inventory, calibration records and quality control documentation.

  • · Train, mentor and quality-check survey technicians and party chiefs within the segment.

  • · Plan and execute drone flights for progress documentation, stockpile volumes and site condition monitoring, in accordance with FAA/Part 107 and project airspace protocols.

  • · Upload and organize survey deliverables in Share Point, Project Wise and other project digital platforms.

  • Minimum requirements

  • · Bachelor's degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • · Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of progressive survey experience in heavy civil, highway or bridge construction, including both field and office survey operations.

  • · Expert-level Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD) — corridor modeling, alignments, surfaces, and 3D model review.

  • · Expert-level Trimble Business Center (TBC) — data processing, adjustments, surface generation, and volumetric calculations.

  • · Hands-on expertise with robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS (RTK and network rover), 3D laser scanning, and UAS/drone survey operations and data processing.

  • · Demonstrated experience producing monthly production and quantity measurements reconciled against a Master pay-quantity or schedule-of-values process.

  • · Solid understanding of horizontal/vertical control, coordinate systems, and state plane/geodetic datums.

  • · Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to lead field crews on an active highway construction corridor.

  • · Valid driver's license; ability to work in an active highway construction environment.

  • Strongly preferred

  • · Prior experience on a DOT (preferably TDOT) Design-Build or P3/DBFOM highway or bridge project.

  • · FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot (UAS) certification.

  • · Familiarity with Procore, or comparable BIM/common-data-environment platforms.

  • · Experience integrating survey deliverables into 4D/BIM workflows for construction sequencing and progress tracking.

  • TDOT Survey Compliance

  • The successful candidate must be able to perform and certify survey work in compliance with TDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, the project's survey
