About the Role The Hockaday School is seeking an experienced security officer to protect the campus, students, employees, visitors, and property through the effective execution of established policies and procedures. The role involves patrols, access control, incident reporting, emergency response, and collaboration with security personnel and local responders to maintain a safe school environment.
What You'll Do
- Conduct regular patrols of the premises, interior and exterior areas, to detect and deter any suspicious activities or security breaches
- Lock and unlock interior and exterior doors on campus as necessary
- Verify the identity of individuals entering the premises, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are granted access
- Provide physical security at building and gate entrances through established protocols
- Provide friendly and professional assistance to employees, visitors, and vendors, addressing inquiries and providing directions as needed
- Perform ID Checks of parents, visitors, or vendors using the RAPTOR system
- Utilize security cameras and monitoring systems to observe and report unusual or unauthorized behavior and/or person(s)
- Write incident reports, answer phones, use radio equipment; maintain accurate and detailed records of security incidents and actions taken
- Coordinate with other security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders as necessary
- Respond promptly to emergencies (medical, fires, or security incidents) and take appropriate action to mitigate risks
- Set up traffic cones per Traffic Management Plan for carpools and special events
- Deliver mail, packages, and copy paper as required, intra-campus
- Monitor the campus for environmental hazards, illegal activities, and vandalism; report or take corrective action as required by school policy
- Assist with traffic flow during student drop-off and pickup periods and other traffic control as needed
- Conduct interviews when necessary to gather information (in person or by phone)
- Stay up to date in CPR, AED, and Basic first aid certifications and tourniquet training
- Report security and/or general maintenance problems to the proper authorities
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- No prior experience necessary, training will be provided
- Basic understanding and ability to use computers and technology including Microsoft Windows and Office products, basic office equipment and mechanical equipment
- Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment (students, co-workers, parents, alumnae, volunteers, trustees, and the public)
- Adaptability, honesty, self-reliance, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, determination, persistence, problem-solving skills and congeniality
- Must have the ability to work in a school environment through satisfactory completion of all legally required and School-required background and screening checks, including criminal and sex offender background checks
