Job description

Lead projects that contribute to stronger, more sustainable disability advocacy sector Bring people together through accessible consultation and co-design Build strong partnerships across the disability advocacy sector Turn ideas into practical, high-quality outcomes

At Disability Advocacy Network Australia (DANA), our work is focused on strengthening independent disability advocacy and supporting the organisations that advocate for and with people with disability.

We’re looking for an experienced Sector Strengthening Project Coordinator to lead the planning and delivery of projects, events and funded initiatives that contribute directly to this work.

About DANA

DANA is the national representative body for independent disability advocacy organisations across Australia.

We are a proudly disability-led organisation working to strengthen independent disability advocacy, influence national policy and ensure the expertise and lived experience of people with disability shapes the decisions that are made.

Our team works remotely across Australia, collaborating with DANA members, Disability Representative Organisations, government, funders and community sector partners.

About the opportunity

This is an opportunity to lead meaningful projects that strengthen the capability, connections and impact of the disability advocacy sector.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sector Strengthening and Engagement, you’ll lead the planning, coordination and delivery of sector-strengthening projects, events and funded initiatives, including working with project partners to deliver the Supported Employment Advocacy Program.

You’ll take responsibility for projects from planning through to delivery and evaluation, developing project plans, managing timelines, budgets and risks, coordinating contributors and partners, and ensuring work is delivered to agreed quality and funding requirements.

A significant part of the role is about relationships. You’ll work with DANA members, Disability Representative Organisations, funders, government agencies, community partners and people with disability. You’ll coordinate forums, workshops and peer networks and support consultation and co-design that is accessible, inclusive, trauma-informed and rights-based.

You’ll also help strengthen how projects are delivered: improving project systems and tools, contributing to evaluation and reporting, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and bringing project expertise and operational insight to DANA’s broader work.

This role operates with a good degree of autonomy. You’ll work under limited direction, exercising judgement on operational project matters while knowing when more complex or strategically significant issues need to be escalated.

About you

You’re an experienced project coordinator who enjoys taking responsibility for getting complex work from planning to completion.

You combine strong project management and organisation with the ability to build trusted relationships, facilitate inclusive engagement and respond thoughtfully when projects don’t go exactly to plan.

You may currently work in:

  • project or program coordination
  • disability advocacy or the broader disability sector
  • a peak, representative or membership organisation
  • community services or another for-purpose organisation
  • community engagement, consultation or events
  • another role combining project delivery, stakeholder engagement and coordination.

Most importantly, you’ll bring:

  • demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering projects or events of comparable complexity and responsibility
  • strong project management capability, including planning, prioritising, monitoring progress, managing risks, budgets and deadlines
  • experience coordinating consultation, community engagement or research activities
  • the ability to build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders and work effectively in collaborative environments
  • strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, including supporting accessible and inclusive forums, peer networks and consultation
  • high-level written communication skills, including project reports and documentation for management, funders or other stakeholders
  • sound judgement, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • strong digital capability and confidence using and learning collaboration, CRM, project management and reporting systems
  • the ability to work effectively and autonomously within a fully remote team
  • a strong commitment to the rights, leadership and participation of people with disability and to disability-led, accessible and inclusive practice.

The Position Description attached sets out the full essential and preferred selection criteria, including relevant qualifications or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Why join DANA?

At DANA, you’ll do meaningful work that contributes directly to strengthening disability advocacy and advancing the rights of people with disability.

You’ll join a proudly disability-led national organisation where lived experience is valued as expertise and accessibility and inclusion shape how we work, not just what we advocate for.

We work flexibly and remotely across Australia, with trust and autonomy to manage your work alongside clear responsibilities and shared accountability.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, values-led team where your expertise and ideas are valued, with opportunities to learn, contribute and help improve how we work.

Most importantly, you’ll use your project and engagement skills to deliver practical work that supports disability advocacy organisations and the people and communities they serve.

Employment: Part-time, 0.8 FTE Contract: 12-month fixed-term Location: Remote, working from a home-based office Travel: In-person attendance at events and meetings is required periodically Classification: SCHADS Award Level 6 Reports to: Senior Manager, Sector Strengthening and Engagement
