About the Role The Ocean Vicinage seeks a well-organized secretary to support a Superior Court Judge in a fast-paced, professional environment. This role requires strong technical, computer and administrative skills, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational abilities to manage workflow and assist in court operations. What You'll Do
- Conform judge's orders and maintain workflow in/out of judicial chambers
- Communicate the judge's schedule with division administration and case management personnel
- Prepare and submit local and state reports
- Manage incoming and outgoing communications including mail, phone calls, and case conference calls
- Schedule and moderate court events remotely using Zoom and Teams
- Procure supplies, equipment, and inventory for chambers
- Perform additional duties as required and assigned
- Format and type judicial opinions and other legal documents
- Compose routine and non-routine correspondence
- Answer inquiries from the public; edit letters and documents as needed
- File records and liaise between the judge and the case management and operating divisions
- Maintain regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite (essential function) What We're Looking For
- Three (3) years of office experience performing clerical and support services
- Proficiency in typing at least 40 words per minute (or ability to pass a skills test)
- Substitution: completion of a clerical training program with at least 700 classroom hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial science may substitute for one year of experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; knowledge of legal terminology is helpful
- Ability to pass an appointing authority examination or provide proof of typing proficiency
- Driver's license valid in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary
- Residency within New Jersey within one year of hire, with possible exemption for hardship or employer critical need
- Selected candidate must undergo fingerprint-based background check; confidentiality maintained
- Authorized to work in the United States (citizenship not required) Nice to Have
- Knowledge of legal terminology and Microsoft Office is helpful Compensation & Benefits
- Salary ranges: Schedule A: $50,776.88 to $75,758.39; Schedule B: $50,776.58 to $71,970.45
- Starting salary normally at the minimum for new hires
- For current Judiciary employees promoted or advanced, salary increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater
