Job title: SecOps Team Manager

About the Role This global leadership role leads Canonical's Security Operations (SecOps) team, responsible for the design, implementation and evolution of security practices, tooling, systems and policies. The SecOps team shapes Canonical's security posture for data, internal infrastructure and build processes, while contributing to the wider open source ecosystem.

What You'll Do

  • Hire and mentor a team of outstanding technical security professionals
  • Define Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks
  • Own and drive the architecture and design of the SOC
  • Analyse and improve Canonical's security architecture
  • Evaluate, select and implement new security tools and practices
  • Identify, contain and guide the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks
  • Grow the presence and thought leadership of Canonical SecOps practice
  • Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives
  • Drive threat modelling, table top exercises and other SecOps practices across Engineering, IS and Canonical
  • Develop Canonical SecOps learning and development materials
  • Publish blog posts, whitepapers and conference presentations
  • Identify, implement and track SecOps KPIs
  • Plan and deliver SecOps work in the framework of Canonical's agile engineering practice

What We're Looking For

  • Deep, hands-on expertise with a range of open source and proprietary security tooling and practices
  • Ability to define and implement security standards, playbooks, and architecture
  • Experience in threat modeling, incident response, and threat intelligence
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities; able to hire, develop, and manage a high-performing team
  • Experience integrating SecOps insights into software development processes and agile practices
  • Excellent communication and ability to collaborate with senior security leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable representing Canonical in security/community venues and governance bodies

Nice to Have

  • Public speaking, conference presentations, and open source community contributions
  • Experience with threat intelligence initiatives and governance body participation
